KitKatKid Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 Hi Support, I can't understand why the >>> Save History <<< a can't be set to 'Always On' in preferences. To be frank I find it a pain in the proverbial to always have to remember to set this parameter to ''on'' each time I open up a new file. In the past there was an issue with file size but the increase in capacity of hard drives has removed this possible issue. Anyone else feel the same way as I do ???? John Edwin Skelton. Gripsholm Lion Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Bumping this because it needs a kick up the ass. For those of us for whom performance and space are no longer issues, having to remember to enable this option and dismiss the patronising message every single time is ridiculous. I still quite often forget to enable it when I would have wanted it. The number of requests regarding this shows that it is an issue. The bare minimum way to improve this UX would be to add a "do not ask again" tick box on the dialogue. The ideal way would be a new three-option setting: Off by default Remember last use (no warning dialogue) On by default (no warning dialogue) ronnyb 1 Quote
KitKatKid Posted October 14, 2024 Author Posted October 14, 2024 The setting for '' Save History '' clearly should be set by default to on. I am now 76 and a half.....white Haired....and a bumbling geriatric computer beginner..... I have to accept that my grey cells are depreciating and forgetting to make sure that Save History is on has cost me dearly................. Come on Affinity Programmers I am sure that this can't be a major job of work to be included from the next update !!!!! Think about your clients please. Thanks in advance John Edwin in Slovakia. No, it definitely shouldn't! There's no reason why other people should have to remember to turn it off every time. There should be an option for the default behaviour, so that users can decide for themselves, rather than having someone else's preference foisted on them! I’ve only ever had a reason to switch the Save History functionality ON for very rare demonstration purposes. It's never switched ON when I'm using the software 'normally'. Having an option to change it: Yes please, if possible. Having it always ON by default: No thank you. Ldina 1 Quote
Gripsholm Lion Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 The opening comment here asked for an option in preferences. I expanded on that suggestion with what I think is a workable setting option. Simply changing the default behaviour without altering anything else would replace one problem with another. One of the wider problems which relates to the particular function being discussed here is the lack of persistence in several settings, toggles, and functions which a reasonable person would expect to persist (or have an option for persistence) for an efficient workflow.
