[Solved] Affinity Designer 2.4, subtracting a Curve (line) from a rectangle or any shape doesn't work

Recommended Posts

I just drew a rectangle.

On top of it I drew a thick line and I wanted to subtract it to the rectangle, creating a slot that is wide as the thickness of the line.

But all what I get is:

the line disappears and the rectangle remains untouched (and the layer of the line disappears also)

The ‘Subtract’ geometry operation is intended for use with closed curves. This requirement was slightly blurred in version 1, where unclosed curves would be closed automatically beforehand.

To create a slot by subtracting a thick line, start by selecting the line and using the ‘Expand Stroke’ to convert it to a closed shape that mimics the appearance of the line (or simply draw a rectangle of the appropriate dimensions in the first place). You will then be able to subtract the closed shape (or the parametric rectangle) from the larger shape that encloses it.

The line has zero thickness (regardless of the width of the stroke) so this is kind of what I would expect. You should use Expand Stroke to make the line a curve that has an actual thickness to subtract.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
