Demonskunk
I'm editing a book that I have split into chapters. The first chapter is set as the Style Source Chapter, but I keep running into issues where I need to add a new style for something within a chapter or edit a style within a chapter. Then I need to copy and paste the thing from the working chapter into the Style Source chapter and then synchronize every chapter with the source chapter again. Am I doing this wrong? Should I just set the chapter I'm currently working on as the Style Source?
MikeTO
If you're adding a new style, add it to the style source chapter instead of to a different chapter and then sync. If you're editing a style, you will have to edit it manually in every chapter because syncing an edited style will lead to the creation of duplicate styles in the other chapters. It doesn't work the way you might expect. It's advisable not to edit styles after creating multiple chapters. I know that's not the advice you want to hear but it's the way it works. You can find more information in the free Publisher manual I've shared in this forum. The link is in my signature below. Good luck. Demonskunk
Yeah, I had a feeling. Sadly I didn't have everything worked out, so I guess I'm just going to have to keep cleaning up after myself.

As much as I dislike (and discourage the use of) overrides you might be best served by using them. Just select the text you need to alter the formating for and apply the overrides to that paragraph(s) or those words/characters. I would only do the overrides if it is an exception to the rule. If however you have several paragraphs that need a particular style then you would be best served by making new paragraph styles and updating the first chapter's Paragraph Styles. This is the sort of thing that experience will inform you as to what works best. There are no real rules regarding when to make a Style and when to simply override.
