It is not an inconsistency, I think it's by design. With text frames you would be using text formatting such as paragraph, character and text frame parameters, you would be considering how to snap to the frame not the text, that is why the text frame is highlighted when the pen tool is selected. I don't think I've seen a single post where someone has queried why they can't I snap to words and letters in a text frame. But for artistic text it has practical applications. thomaso and PaulEC 2 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Sequoia 15.0 (24A335), iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... (…) It's just one of the many inconsistencies that occur for certsain Affinity's functions & it needs to be sorted out ... & well documented, too!!! You can increase this even further: Having different types of text objects would be already inconsistent. Just note: you may convert a Frame Text object into an Art Text object, for instance to access a feature that one offers but the other doesn't. 🤓 Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

I'm still puzzled as to why the nodes show up at all when the Pen tool is chosen if absolutely nothing can be done when that takes place. I was really hoping for somebody to tell me something obvious that I was completely missing, but apparently, I've stumbled upon something that just can't be put to good use. Lol. These small nodes means they are not currently editable. Same happens with any shape created with the shape tools - you can edit their parameters/red nodes but you can manipulate the shape's nodes directly. You can only manipulate them after you convert the object to curves. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
