TechX Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 I'm using the Photo beta 2.4.0.2301 and when I try to open a file (doesn't seem to make any difference what format the file is or its size.) Phot hangs and doesn't do anything. I've left it for up to five minutes and it still hasn't done anything. If I try to close Photo, I get a message that it's still trying to open a file. (I've attached a screen grab of the message.) I'm running an up-to-date Windows 11 Pro installation. Any assistance in sorting this matter out would be greatly appreciated.
GarryP Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Welcome to the forums @TechX V2.4.0 has been commercially available as an upgrade to the V2 applications for a while now. Is there some reason why you are still using the beta version of V2.4.0 (which, I think, will shortly expire)? There's nothing that I know of in the beta that isn't available in the commercial version.
TechX Posted March 20, 2024 Author Posted March 20, 2024 I've upgraded Photo to version 2.40 and I still have the same issue. I'm not sure what the deal is.
GarryP Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 If you try searching the forums for some keywords in the message you might find the information you need. For example, try searching for currently opened wait .
TechX Posted March 21, 2024 Author Posted March 21, 2024 I've tried searching for everything I could think of and didn't find any solution. I don't use Publisher or Designer that often but I tried them and have the same issue. I've tried them with JPG & PNG files and it makes no difference. I've uninstalled and re-installed all three programs with no luck. These are the MSIX files being used for installation. Should I move this topic out of the Beta pages as all of these are now the production releases?
GarryP Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Did you look here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/79067-affinity-photo-program-will-not-close/ You cannot move a thread but a moderator might do so for you if they happen to be strolling by and notice this.
TechX Posted March 22, 2024 Author Posted March 22, 2024 Thanks for the pointer. I found the install located @ C:\Users\*****\.affinity\Photo\2.0\temp. I have tried removing the temp folder but it made no difference. The last comment in that thread refers to outdated GPU drivers but my drivers are up to date. I've done another uninstall and re-install. I used Uninstalr to do the uninstall, as it does a very thorough job of grabbing everything from the installation. It's really a rather puzzling situation and getting to be a very troubling one.
