Odd behavior with pasting command. Bug or fixable via settings?

Recommended Posts

I'm not exactly sure when this started, but pasting is giving me issues.

1. Designer no longer to be pasting elements in place, but around the center. I looked in settings and tried googling the issue, but there doesn't seem to be a setting to change that behavior, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

2. Also, pasting shapes nested in a group results in the original shape being turned into curve + image inside separate groups nested in a layer. Is this normal? I never noticed this behavior before. I'm attaching an example of what pasting a simple rounded rectangle (nested in a group) results in.

Thanks.

I haven't observed anything like this. Can you please upload a screencast video of what exactly you're doing?

MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2

What kind of a layer effect have you applied?

Also, do you have any 3rd party clipboard app active in the background?

Ah, that did it. I had an outer glow effect applied which once removed fixed both issues. That said, I don't remember layer effects affecting pasting before. Has it always been the case?

As long as the clipboard content stays within the same Affinity version, all data should remain native.
Pasting such an object from v2 to v1 will rasterize it, however.
And as noted, 3rd party clipboard managers/enhancers can cause it.

Ah yes, I also had a 3rd party clipboard manager running. Closing it fixed both issues even without removing the layer effect.

Thanks!
