Layering Photos in Overlays

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I don't understand how to import a second photo in the overlays in Affinity Photo. I've seen recommendations to go to file and "place" but there is no "place" in my file drop down menu. Additionally, there were instructions to drag and drop. Also a fail. I'm using a MacBook and I'm attempting to do this in RAW. Do I have to convert images to JPEG before layering?

As long as you are in the AP Photo persona, you should see "Place..." about 2/3 thirds of the way down in the list:

Can you please advise what AP persona means?

Please see Affinity Photo 2 Help: Personas.

It looks like I can't work in RAW for this maneuver and that JPEG might be needed.

The options in the Develop persona are quite limited. For most of your editing you would need to develop the RAW image and then use the tools in the Photo persona.

When I open a raw file (Canon's CR2 in my case) Affinity Photo automatically uses the Develop Persona. I will do a few basic edits to get the proper exposure and contrast then Develop the CR2 file by hitting the Develop button. Affinity Photo will automatically choose the Photo Persona and I can then use all the tools for further editing.

The Develop Persona is the middle one. Going from Left to Right we have five personas; Photo, Liquify, Develop, Tone Mapping, and Export.

When I hit the Develop button I (and the CR2 file) will get sent to the Photo persona

Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
