I cannot get the option <Resize Document> from Affinity Publisher to Affinity Photo.

Recommended Posts

Why can't I scale a photo from Affinity Publisher 2.0 to a different size and resolution. It looks like this on the screenshot that I cannot get into this option. <Resize Document> Am I doing something wrong?

Maybe I can't scale a photo to an appropriate size directly from Affinity Publisher? Otherwise, why does it indicate <Non-Proportional Scaling> in the <Preflight>?

See image <resize-document.png>

Thanks in advance for the solution.

Resize Document would affect all the Pages, which is probably not what you would want to do in the Photo Persona.

You would normally transfer a layer using the Transform panel, or by dragging a corner of the layer's bounding box. And that may require holding Shift or not holding Shift to maintain the aspect ratio, depending on your application Settings and the kind of layer you have.

Your "document" seems to be an .afpub. Such may have various pages of various sizes and get page sizes set via document or spread properties … whereas the photo persona menu is meant for single canvas documents.

To edit the size of your placed image directly from APub choose the "Edit Image" button in the context toolbar, this will open the file as a separate document inside APub and allow you to edit its dimensions and resolution.

To avoid the preflight message you alternatively can change the aspect ratio of the placed resource with the Move Tool (or by click on the DPI in the upper left corner of the Context Toolbar). Or ignore the preflight message and use the resampling options available when exporting the .afpub.

Once the picture is selected with the Move tool (black arrow), you have the possibility to resize it through the contextual toolbar. And if you prefer to specify a size instead of a scaling factor or a resolution,  you can also set it in the Transform panel.

N.B. If the scale (thus also the resolution) is not the same for height and width, you'll have this preflight alert. You can reset it to its original size and then click on the "chain" icon on the right to link both dimensions (it's linked in the first screenshot, not in the 2nd) before resizing again.

If the resource is placed as "embedded" the option "Edit Image" is not available. Then you can scale / adjust the aspect ratio / placed resolution either by dragging the bounding box handles or by click-open the drop-down dialog in the Context Toolbar that shows the initial pixel dimension + current DPI. As long you did not rasterize / trim the resource layer this settings can be changed without harm non-destructively and un-/re-doable at any time.

Alternatively you can enable the button "Edit Image" by switching the resource in the Resource Manager from "embedded" to linked". If the image got placed as a resource from your disk the Resource Manager will know its file path and display this at its bottom and above the "Make Linked…" button (both cropped in your screenshot). – Of course, editing a linked image this way will edit the image on disk (and auto-request to Save your edit when closing its document window) … while scaling/stretching an embedded resource will affect only this specific instance inside your .afpub.
