GarryP Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Designer 2.3.1 on Windows 10. This vector shape in my attached document looks quite simple but the Contour Tool seems to have some issues with it – see attached video. As far as I can tell, it doesn’t have any weird ‘double-nodes’ or anything like that. It was taken (copy/paste vectors) from a placed SVG, and flipped horizontally, but I can’t remember where I got the SVG from (the filename is “Man-Head-Silhouette.svg” if that helps at all). I’m posting this as feedback, rather than a bug, just so that the developers can look at it and see if they can do anything about it. 2024-02-07 14-41-07.mp4 unexpected-contour-tool-artefacts.afdesign Quote

Staff Callum Posted February 7, 2024 Staff Posted February 7, 2024 Hi Garry, I can't see any reason for this to be happening so have decided to log this as a bug and will move the thread accordingly. Its still possible this isn't a bug but I will update this thread with any info I receive. Thanks C GarryP 1 Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.

Video_2024-02-07_181311.mp4 These manifestations could possibly be related, as they both depend on the size of the object to which the function (stroke width or contour width) is applied. Mkultra Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 I guess I'm experiencing the same issue when using the contour tool. I often need to offset text a little with like 0.03 radius and most of the time I need to redo this operation over and over since sometimes it adds random artifacts on some of the text outlines and sometime it doesn't. As I said, it doesn't do that all the time is kind of random, sometime it works properly other times (even with the same text font and text) I need instead to delete the outlines, add the same text again, convert to curve and use the contour tool, set the required radius size and see if it adds the artifacts, rinse and repeat until I got it right. In some cases it doesn't really work, and I have to import the outlines into Illustrator and offset them in there and then re-import it in to Affinity or finish the work in Illustrator. Also I notice if i zoom in, it affect the radius of the offset, is this the expected behaviour? In illustrator I can apply let's say an offset of 0.03 radius and zoom very close or far out and it doesn't affect the radius size. Quote
Daniel KG Posted April 15, 2024 Posted April 15, 2024 I was hoping to find some solution but seams this is still unresolved. I often get this artefacts regardless on which PC I am on and it's very annoying. colorsHaveChangedAgain 1 Quote
