How do I get APu's master to count every other page (BY 1s)???

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

Is there a way to custom-number the pages within the master setup in Publisher? In the book that I am currently putting together, I'm having the master to NOT display on the even pages, but I STILL want the counting sequence to show up as normal on all of the odd pages. (as if the even pages do not exist) So in other words - I want the numbers that show up on every odd page, to increase numerically by 1. Just like normal as if every page was being counted The problem I have is that I can't find a way to set the numbering sequence to skip every other page and still count as normal. I'm still getting 1,3.5, etc.

Is there a way to skip every other page AND have the numbered pages still count by just 1? I do still want the master numbering sequence to count by 1s, I just want it to skip every other page while doing so.

I hope that wasn't too confusing.
Thanx Everybody!

The page number as field doesn't offer this option, you need a workaround with "manual" numbers + linked text frames for text flow. Depending on your setup you may need to manually link the page number frames on the various spreads across the document.

You could also do it with a Paragraph Text Style set up to number each paragraph. Put a text frame or Artistic Text item on the pages that should be numbered, and assign that Text Style to get the incrementing number.

You'll need to use the Global and Name settings in the Bullets and Numbering section of the Text Style. (Sorry; can't provide an example right now.)

Or you could just create it as pages instead of facing-page spreads which would be very easy.

For example, if the pages are 6 inches wide and your facing-page spread is 12 inches wide with left and right sides, just create a non-facing pages document that is 12 inches wide. You would divide the page into separate pages by drawing frames where you want them but to Publisher it would be a single page and thus the page numbering would work the way you want to.

Just and easy … but would a layout of single page spreads work for OP's book production / would the imposition work correctly with such spreads instead of single pages?

Hello All,

These all seem like pretty solid suggestions. I'm not as well versed with Publisher as I am with Designer and Photo, so I will make my way with familiarizing myself with each of these suggested methods and hopefully, I will be able to perform them correctly and then determine which would work best for me here.

Greatly appreciate all of the input thus far @thomaso @walt.farrell @MikeTO

Thank You.
