zookirb
I don't see a place to set the leading for text. There is a relative setting in Paragraph but that is not good enough for graphic design. The leading must be precisely adjustable. My apologies if I missed the setting. Another thing concerning text, when I import an Illustrator CS6 document, it appears that I cannot make changes to the existing text. This is also needed for graphic design. I have thousands of existing documents that I would need to be able to import and change if I was to use Designer instead of Illustrator for my work. I have already purchased 2 copies of Designer, it has great features and could potentially replace Illustrator for any job where the requirement is to send a PDF file for final output such as ads and some digital printing. One big problem is packaging. For these projects, native Illustrator files are sent to the printer so that bleeds and overprints can be adjusted by the printer. You might need to be able to round-trip files back to Illustrator (AI format) in order for this to work because this is an established workflow with most printers, especially in the USA. Again, my apologies if this has already been discussed.
Staff MEB Posted October 13, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 13, 2014 Hello zookirb, Welcome to Affinity Forums. On the paragraphs window have you checked the drop down of the Leading setting? One of the options is exactly and let you specify the leading in points. Import/export formats are still being worked and continuously improved. You can expect some fixes and refinements soon. korie.psd and denys 2 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
zookirb
Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. I would suggest that this setting should also be available from the Character menu. The way it is set up now, you need to have 2 palettes open when you are working with text and if it is just a word or a line of text, you don't want to get into Paragraphs. Also, it would be great if "Exactly" was the default or could be made to be the default. You want to control the leading always, I think. I realize that you are still working on the software and it could take a long time build all of the desired functionality. I'm interested in the long haul as my current software tools work for now but will not work sometime in the future as some of them are not being updated any longer. ronnyb
Staff MEB Posted October 13, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 13, 2014 There's a feature roadmap available that may give you some answers regarding Affinity Designer short/medium term features. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Dave Harris
Once you have set "Exactly", it should remain as the default for new text in the same document. There's currently no way to change the defaults for new documents, but it's on our list of things to add. denys
Iin Wibisono
How do I create multiple column text? How do I create text flow between columns? Thanks
Staff MEB Posted January 25, 2015 Staff Share Posted January 25, 2015 Hello Iin Wibisono, Welcome to Affinity Forums. There's no way to set multiple columns or flow text between them. Those features will be available in Affinity Publisher (our desktop publishing software) available later this year as a beta and eventually be integrated in Designer around the same time.
