If you resize the canvas a lot bigger instead of this small amount do you get some transparent pixels at the top?

I ask because if you had cropped the top of the photo and then used resize canvas, the cropped area at the top of the photo would still be there, just off the canvas, so resizing the canvas with the centre anchor would just uncover some of that cropped area.

Many thanks for such a prompt reply. I have done a lot to the image and I think Cropping was part of it. Since then I started again with an imported JPG image, and "resize canvas" on this does as described in online tutorials.
