Need to fill my own shape with text

Recommended Posts

This may be a bit "convoluted", but...

I cut out a part of an image, saved the cut out part, and turned it red. I need to save this "image" as a shape I can fill with text. I can't find a way to do that in Photo or Designer. Not even sure the file type in which I should save it. I need to keep the color (red), and fill with white text. CAN it be done in Photo or Designer?

Do I make it into a tracing, then make the background of the text red, the text white, and do a mask? That isn't quite what I want to accomplish, but it would be close enough to get the gist of what I'm trying to create.

When you say 'cut out a part ...turned it red' do you mean like this

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Like this... Added the live warp for a bit of artistic license.

Yes, very similar.

Now what? LOL I'm not certain as to which file type to save it so I can add text in it.

Similar, yes.

Nothing I've tried so far has worked.

Yes this can be done in both the apps you have mentioned. Take a look at this file...

I have created a clipping mask using curves drawn with the pen tool around the gorilla, I duplicated that curve and used one to colour the gorilla and the other to clip the text to the curves shape, I dropped the opacity of the text layer to 50%.

This is just one method of several that can be used to clip and mask objects in a document.

So, I have to draw around the image, using the pen tool, then create a clipping mask? Oh, boy. My hand is too shaky for that. :( I was hoping I could just "cut it out", then fill it in. It's a solid shape, not shaded like your gorilla.

No, you can also use the Selection Brush Tool to mask out the object. Use the Refine... button to refine your selection. Chose New layer with mask under Output.

Now draw a recangle that fits the selection area or insert a new fill layer.  In both cases set the colour you wish and nest the layer in the mask layer.

At the last step make a new frame text or artistic text layer an nest it in the rectangle or the fill layer.

Like Komatos has said and demonstrated, there are a few ways to do what you want, maybe if you take a screenshot of what you have we can better show you.

Do you want to mask text edges or to wrap the text inside the shape?

I want to fill this with the "Twas the Night Before Christmas" poem. I have saved it in .svg, .png (what I posted here), and .afphoto. Not sure which file I should use. I tried Komatössuggestion, but couldn't figure out what he meant.

Here is the image I want to fill.

I would prefer wrapped

For wrapped text you need a vector shape used as text frame. Assuming a certain font size (in relation to the size of the image) the text shape doesn't need to have exactly the identical shape & details of your image.

Just in case: if you could use APublisher with its Text Wrap option to get the shape automatically created without a need to draw it yourself.

Alternatively you could use any vectorizer app to convert your raster image into a vector shape for text wrap.

Thank you! I'm saving all of this.

I DID get it to work!!! Whew! Learning is quite a process for my little pea brain! LOL THANK you for all the tips!
