stingray Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 I'm finding the colour tools in Affinity Photo particularly difficult to use and unnessecarily complex when compared to Gimp and others. I posted in this Forum section in error. I have moved the topic to here: Sorry for the inconvenience. Please post all comments to the other topic. PaulEC 1
R C-R Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 I don't know if this will help but Image layers are a special type of container layer that retains all the data of the original placed image like its color space & resolution. This is very useful for some workflows because it means that until/unless it is rasterized it can be returned to its original size or replaced with another image automatically using the same dimensions the the original was set to use. The price for this is the slight complication for workflows that need to work directly on pixels of having to rasterize placed Images to do that. Ron P. Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Just a small tip, if you do not want to go the extra step of Rasterizing, then Drag and Drop the image into AP. AP will automatically rasterize it. PaulEC 1 Affinity Photo 2.6..; Affinity Designer 2.6..; Affinity Publisher 2.6..; Affinity2 Beta versions. stingray Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 Thanks @R C-R. Yes, I was thinking that might be what makes this fairly simple procedure more difficult than it should be. I was hoping there might be a practical workaround but everything I try just leads me into some impossible behavioural maze with no satisfying solution.
stingray Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 @Ron P. thanks for that tip. I'll keep that in mind for other circumstances. Unfortunately, I'm very often using 'New for Clipboard' where no drag and drop is possible.
stingray Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 I realised I've posted this in the wrong section. FYI I have moved it to: Please post any further comments to this other topic.

What is so difficult about rasterizing an Image layer? If you need to do this often you can assign a keyboard shortcut to that so you do not need to open any menu. That way it takes only a fraction of a second to rasterize it. Nothing is difficult about rasterising an image layer except my laziness - and I consider I have the right to be lazy when doing something basic. The Image or Pixel layer has certain advantages but apparently there's also a price to pay. My topic above mentions GIMP and others where this is much easier to do from the start. Yep a key command makes it easier. My original quest was to not have to do that. Please continue this in the other topic here: I won't be replying any further to this topic.

It would be confusing to do that when I am replying to a comment you made in this topic. That's why I said this is the right place for it. IOW, it is all about keeping the context intact & obvious. I am not going to do that because I am replying to comments you made here in this topic, not in that other one. That would make no sense, contextually.
