chrispa Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Hi, How to remove mask from dynamic layer? If I right-click on the mask's thumbnail, the dedicated menu is gray out… First Screenshot shows the right-click menu for the mask of a pixel layer. "Libérer le masque" works fine. Second Screenshot shows the right-click for the the mask of a dynamic filter. "Libérer le masque" is gray out. 😝 Affinity Photo v2.3.1 on a 32 Gb M1 MBP Quote
Old Bruce Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 You'll need to go to the Channels panel and use the Fill choice from the Right Click on the built in Mask Alpha Channel. The Layers panel will still show the built in mask so just learn to ignore it. chrispa Posted January 18, 2024 Author Posted January 18, 2024 Thank you Old Bruce, it works fine! But that's weird. Why right-clicking on the mask's thumbnail doesn't work? Is the grayed out menu a bug? Hum… Quote

The grayed out entry was for a different option. I'm not sure why. chrispa Posted January 18, 2024 Author Posted January 18, 2024 Creating a mask is so easy… Removing a mask is so difficult! Quote

That depends on whether it is an implicit mask (each Adjustment and Filter has one, which you can paint on immediately) or whether you manually added the Mask. For implicit masks, you must use the method described by Old Bruce above. For masks you added manually, you can simply select the mask and Delete it. Or you can Release it via right-click if you've nested it into the Filter layer. Technically, you can't remove the builtin masks for layer types like adjustments & filters that have them. You can either use the method @Old Bruce suggested or a paint brush to reset them to fully opaque. walt.farrell 1 Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.6 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7
prophet Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 Has someone added a feature request for an easier way to remove the built-in mask? Quote

The built-in mask can't be removed (because it is built in), but perhaps there should be an easier way to revert it to full coverage (IOW, nothing masked out) and maybe to have it hidden in the layers panel when that is done (so it doesn't have to be ignored)? chrispa 1 Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.6 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7
chrispa Posted January 21, 2024 Author Posted January 21, 2024 Exactly what we need to have the clearest panel possible. Since the version 2, it's harder to read quickly this panel with so many informations… Quote

I just wish that if reset to the default they would no longer show, or alternately that they always are shown, indicating that they are built into those layer types. chrispa 1 Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.6 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7
