Text cut out messes with underlying shape

I have text over a circle that I want to be transparent through the circle.  But, when I select the text, and circle, then the subtract button, it cuts out most of the text and cuts off some of the shape.  Any ideas what is going on here?

Hi @Ryan W and welcome to the forums,

Is it literally just the text that you want to appear as transparent including where the text clips the black circle but keeping the white central circle white?

If so then this is how I would approach it but if not, let us know which elements you'd like to appear transparent and which not...

You can also use a compound to keep some flexibility with regard to positioning.

Yes that worked!  Thank you!  Do you know why there's that glitch like in the picture I posted where simply using the subtract key cuts out part of the circle and added some white to bottom of S?  It all depends on the position of the "KIDS" text.  If I move the text up enough it worked perfectly, but it had to be in the exact spot.

I think you’d need to upload your original file so we can take a closer look to be able to determine what is causing the glitch…

I went to recreate the problem by creating a new page and now it's working perfectly.  Must have something to do with the fact that I was designing that logo on top of a banner that already had many layers.
