Hello,

I am working on a bitmap gradient. From reading, (https://affinity.help/designer2/English.lproj/index.html?page=pages/ObjectControl/duplicate.html?title=Duplicating objects) I was thinking that the bitmap could be repeated.

When I try this, I get an unexpected result, (screen picture attached).

Can you tell me if what is displayed is anticipated?
It also exports to PDF with this view.

You may want Wrap instead of the Repeat you have set in the Context toolbar.

Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Yes,

that repeat is what I was trying for. When I use Repeat, with the bitmap gradient (& tool) it seems to give a corrupted image (.jpg 659x452 px, from Affinity Photo).

I have tried it with a cat image (screen grab attached) with the same kind of result.

Does Repeat merely repeat certain edge pixels?

With the object & gradient tool selected, I used Reset Transform and the object worked as anticipated. Now, if I use the Gradient tool to drag, the object gradient seems to work just fine; As long as I don't use the Gradient tool on the first go.

Yes, it repeats the edge pixels. You can see that happening in @GarryP's video although it is not obvious because the edge pixels are the same color as nearby ones.
