Aloha,

I am going a bit mad trying to figure out why my dimensions are off when I export from Affinity Publisher 2 to pdf.  In Publisher, each of these dots are set 5mm apart and they are correct.  When I export it to PDF for print, I would measure the printout and the dimensions are off.  I need them exact for the designs that I have going over these dots.

I have attached the two documents for review.  If you know a solution, please dumb it down for me to follow.  I sincerely appreciate it!Test 2.pdfTest 2.pdf

How do you measure, and what is "off"?

When I open your layout and place your PDF over the layout page with the dots, all dots match exactly.

Also, when I view it at 100% on my computer and put a ruler to it, the dimensions are correct.  When I put a ruler to it and measure the pdf view, it is coming short.

That looks like an issue with your print setting then. Make sure you're printing at 100% size.

Can you show me how you are doing it to get the right dimension on paper?

The rectangle on the printed paper was exactly 10×10 cm. And that's just on a cheap b/w HP laser printer in our living room… :)

Thank you for testing it but can you try my pdf?  Also, did you save it as a pdf first and then print it?  I have to save it as a pdf bc the publishing company only accepts pdf.  Here are my settings when i save.

Not now, but usually I do. But that's mainly because the Affinity Print dialog on Mac is very prone to crashing… :/

Yeah, that's normal.

incase you are curious... this is my print setting:

That looks like the Acrobat print dialog, right?
Usually this should work just fine.
But to be sure, I'd likely choose "Custom scale: 100%".

In any case, your exported PDF matches your page layout dimensions precisely. The layout or the PDF themselves are not the problem here.

I honestly just need someone to print out this pdf and tell me if it's not spaced in incremements of 5mm.  My sister printed it out on her end as well and it's off.

The PDF itself looks fine.

It seems like the issue might be related to the print settings, even though it's set to "Actual Size." Several factors could cause the printout to be smaller than expected. Here are some possible causes and solutions:

Printer's Default Settings: Some printers have their own default settings that might adjust the print size. Check your printer's own settings to ensure there isn't a scaling feature activated.

Paper Size and Margins: Ensure that the paper size in the print dialog matches the size you are working with in Affinity Publisher, and that the margins are correctly set. If there's a mismatch, the printer might attempt to adjust the content, changing its dimensions.

Scaling in PDF Viewer: Some PDF viewers and printers have a setting that automatically fits or scales content to the paper. Ensure these settings are disabled in both your PDF viewer and the print dialog.

Try Printing from a Different Program: Open and print the PDF file from a different program (like Adobe Reader or another PDF viewer) to see if the issue persists. This can help identify if the problem is related to the specific program you are using to view and print the PDF.

I simply no longer believe that there are any professional graphic designers here. Everything follows suit. Just everything.

Hey Lacerto -

Thank you for going beyond and testing this out.  I thought it was my printer and sent my pdf to the publisher who printed the pdf - their measurements are also off.  I'ts driving me crazy.  My measurements in APub is correct, the pdf is correct -- it's gotta be something between the pdf file and the printer.

I have checked all the settings mentioned above and it's still spitting it out consistently wrong.  If i find out what's doing this, I will update.

I have the same issue - using Affinity Publisher V1 - I resized my document spread from 6x9 to 5x8 and made sure to rescale the spread - but the PDF still turns out 6x9. I have reviewed all the steps and repeated this several times. Very frustrating.
