Doug Sisco Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 In Designer 2.3.1, when I float a panel it appears too high in the top of my secondary monitor. I cannot drag it down because the 'drag bar' (title bar) is not visible. I can perform a 'Reset Studio' but when I un-dock the panel it goes right back to the same spot. I tried reinstalling Affinity Designer but it didn't fix the problem. Quote
Pšenda Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Try disconnecting the second monitor, perform a Reset studio, and undock the panel. P.S. This is not the "Tool panel" as topic title says, but the "Character panel". GarryP Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 (edited) Another possibility for this sort of thing, which may not need the use of Reset Studio unless it keeps happening, for Windows users, would be to: Click on the Panel background, not a control in the panel – to give that panel the ‘input focus’; Press Alt+Space; Press the “M” key, or whichever key relates to the “Move” menu item in the language your OS is set to (see post below).; Press any cursor key. The panel should now be movable via the cursor keys or by moving the mouse without clicking on a mouse button. Edited January 16, 2024 by GarryP Added clarification. Pšenda 1 Quote

Pšenda Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 It could still be useful if someone could indicate here how something similar (i.e. invoking the system menu for windows/panels) is done in MacOS. Oufti Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 I still don't catch what is and what does a "shortcut menu for an active window"… I imagine it must be something like the Accessibility functions on macOS? • https://support.apple.com/en-us/guide/mac-help/mchl654a7cc7/14.0/mac/14.0 Quote Affinity Suite 2.5 – Monterey 12.7.5 – MacBookPro 14" 2021 M1 Pro 16Go/1To I apologise for any approximations in my English. I believe you're asking for the Mac equivalent to this Windows feature: The equivalent macOS menu appears when you mouse over the "traffic light" controls in the upper left and pause over the green one. If you hold Option the commands will change to three variations of those options. Windows and Mac are very different when it comes to using the interface without a mouse or trackpad. Although macOS can be used via keyboard, it's not "on" all the time like it is in Windows, you need to enable Full Keyboard Access: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/mac-help/mchlc06d1059/14.0/mac/14.0 So this isn't something super convenient for a Mac user to use to get a panel that is partially offscreen to move down and I don't know that it would work. I think you're right that this is one area where macOS and Windows are very different, and Windows may provide a better mechanism for controlling/correcting the window placement when this problem occurs.
