Minerva Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Hello, I am trying to determine if there is a setting I can use to make the move tool ONLY move an object? There are times that once I select an item and drag it to a new spot on the canvas the item will resize and I have to undo. I am afraid I will not notice the change at some point and the items I am working with have to be precise as they are used to project and cut pieces of precise size. I see this issue reported in 2018 when searching but no resolution or viable work around but I can’t find anything recent. Thank you Quote
Minerva Posted January 15, 2024 Author Posted January 15, 2024 In the video in all cases I was just trying to move the item somewhere else on the canvas. Frequently it will not move and instead change the shape and I have to undo. Is there a setting I can use to ensure I can’t accidentally change the object and just move it? Thank you Quote
prophet Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Looks like sometimes you are pulling the handles used for scaling rather than the object/group itself. Stay away from the corners and edge centers when you just want to move. Tricky when you are dealing with such small objects/groups. Quote

I've gotten used to pinch in - edit - pinch out when using the iPad with fingers, and I don't experience much different conditions with the Apple Pencil. I don't like using the iPad for the same reason, even with a Bluetooth mouse attached, it's as if the precision of clicks and accuracy is less than on my Mac, and then it's quite difficult to hit precisely - or to avoid precisely. I simply have to zoom more and I don't want to interrupt my creative work with it. I actually bought a Magic Trackpad just to be able to do this (zoom) more easily with my right hand when I have the iPad on a desk with a keyboard and mouse. Because I have to do it so often. Quote I simply no longer believe that there are any professional graphic designers here. Everything follows suit. Just everything.
Minerva Posted January 16, 2024 Author Posted January 16, 2024 Yes I agree it is that they are smallish and zoomed out. It is kind of a pain to keep zooming in and out. Maybe they will add an optional “lock“ option for the move tool so it can just be used as a move only tool if you want with no fear of changing the object at any zoom. I had hoped to be able to use the iPad but I’ll have to go back to desktop until they add that. Quote
