bures Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Maybe I missed something, but I can't seem to find a way to share Export persona settings between multiple documents in Affinity Designer. I have defined several output files in the Export persona that contains different file types, different file sizes and file names. I would like to use the same settings for other files. I created this setup with the 'Create export setup preset...' option. Nowhere can I find how to apply the previously created preset to another file. Quote
GarryP Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 There are buttons in the Slices Panel for Copying/Replacing/Adding export formats via the Clipboard. Do they help you to do what you need to do? bures 1 Quote
bures Posted January 15, 2024 Author Posted January 15, 2024 To the left of these icons is the Export preset drop-down list. There is a saved item with my preset. I have no idea how I missed it. Quote
bures Posted January 15, 2024 Author Posted January 15, 2024 I'm trying to use the preset on another file and found that the User variables that I use for the exported file name are not being transferred. I think that's a pretty serious error. Quote
bures Posted January 15, 2024 Author Posted January 15, 2024 I found another bug. I add the Width variable to Path components. I have set the value e.g. '200p', but the text '200' is not inserted in the filename. Quote
GarryP Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 I’ve just copied an export format from one document to another using the Copy/Add functions – not using the Presets – in the Slices Panel and the user variable copied over okay for me. There’s a chance that we are not doing the same things and are therefore talking at cross-purposes. Would you be able to record a video showing us the steps you are performing which aren’t working for you? (One video per problem is better.) Quote

I think that's a pretty serious error. I've tested this here and it appears to be working correctly for me - 2024-01-15 14-53-22.mp4  However, please note that the area of the Slices Studio that you have selected is important, as if you don't have the specific Slice Export selected when using this Copy option, you might not be copying the expected values. For example, this is the incorrect selection view, if you want to copy the Slice Export settings -  The correct view looks at such, with the specific Slice export settings selected - This is a rather subtle 'highlight' difference for the correct behaviour, so I'll be logging this with our team to see if it can be improved to be clearer in the future. 12 minutes ago, bures said: I found another bug. I add the Width variable to Path components. I have set the value e.g. '200p', but the text '200' is not inserted in the filename. The value you have defined as the Slice export size is not using a Width (w) value, hence this value is not propagated into the Slice name. If you define the slice export size using a specific Width (w) value, this will be added to the slice name - I hope this helps! Quote
bures Posted January 15, 2024 Author Posted January 15, 2024  I used the value in pixels. Hodnota se nepřenesla.  Edit: Unfortunately, the dialog for entering 'Path components' is not visible in the video. I put the Width variable after the dash. Affinity Designer 2 2024-01-15 15-59-01.mp4 Quote
Dan C Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Thanks for providing that for me! 6 minutes ago, bures said: I used the value in pixels. You are exporting the slice using a 'p' variable for the slice size and setting the width 'w' variable to this slice name - the 'p' value you've used is not a Width 'w' value, and therefore isn't used for the slice name. If you want to use the 'Width' variable in the slice name, your export slice size needs to use the 'w' variable specifically, for example '100w'. The app does not convert between the p export scale and the actual width of the exported file generated when using the width 'w' variable and this is expected behaviour. bures 1 Quote
bures Posted January 16, 2024 Author Posted January 16, 2024 The use of individual Variables in Path components is very confusing for users. Without using help or much experience, it is hard to guess which variable corresponds to which abbreviation (x, v, h, p). It might be worth putting the specific abbreviation in the Variable name. What Variable should I use to get the value from 'p' into the filename? I've tried different Variables, but no luck. Â Finally I used User Variable, but it didn't carry over to the other User Variables: Â Video_2024-01-16_093248.mp4 Quote
Dan C Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 Thanks for your feedback! 1 hour ago, bures said: What Variable should I use to get the value from 'p' into the filename? I've tried different Variables, but no luck. As I understand it, we don't currently support the 'p' value as a variable, apologies. I'm not aware of any option to directly use the p value set for the slice in the slice name, so your workaround shown may be the bets option currently. 1 hour ago, bures said: Finally I used User Variable, but it didn't carry over to the other User Variables: Your recording doesn't show you copy/pasting any variables, so I can't really comment on this. As above please ensure you have selected the specific slice export settings before using the Copy option if you want these to carry. bures 1 Quote

I created the user variables 200p and 500p with values 200 and 500 in the first step. I assumed that both variables would appear in the other definitions. That is, the variable will not be local, but will be visible within the preset. If the user variable is not visible in the whole preset, it is meaningless. Quote
Dan C Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 Variables are created for each specific slice export size, they are not shared with other exported slices by default - if you want to share variables across multiple formats/sizes, you'll need to use the copy & paste functions in the Slices Studio. 4 minutes ago, bures said: If the user variable is not visible in the whole preset, it is meaningless. I'd recommend creating a feedback post with your suggestions, if you wish to see this behaviour change bures 1 Quote
