GarryP Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Welcome to the forums @Šarlota From my basic understanding of this area… If you have version 1 of the application then you can only use it on the OS you purchased it to be used on. New licences for the version 1 applications are no longer available to purchase. If you have version 2 of the application then you can use the same application on more than one OS only if you purchased a Universal Licence: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/affinity-pricing/ If you do not have a Universal Licence for the application then, to use the application on a different OS, you would need to purchase a new licence for it to be used on that OS. If any of this is wrong then I’m sure someone will correct me. Dan C 1 Quote
Dan C Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Hi @Šarlota & welcome to the Affinity Forums I've checked your Affinity account under your forum email address and I can see you previously purchased a license for Affinity Publisher V2 on macOS. Unfortunately this is a license for macOS only and can't be used on Windows - if you wish to use the app on Windows you'll need to purchase a specific Windows Publisher V2 license, or the Universal License for all apps on all platforms. I hope this clears things up! Quote

An example: If Serif Labs put a lot of resources and money to develop Affinity Suite for Linux, should everyone in the world who’s runs Linux get this for free also (if they earlier bought an licence for Mac or Windows)? Your argument isn’t plausible for a company like Serif Labs that pays the staff’s salaries from licence income… Quote Happy guy playing around with the Affinity Suite - really love typographic, photographing, Color & forms, AND, old Synthesizers from the 1980-1990’s… Mac Mini M4 (24GB RAM/2TB SSD) connected to an 32” curved 5K external display, iPad Mini 7-128GB (2024) iPad Pro 12.9” M1 2021, iPad Pro 10.5” A10X 2017, iMac 27” 5K/i7 late 2015 - also an Lenovo iMac i7 clone with 24” touch screen and Windows 10…

Unless you purchased a Universal licence for the V2 software, which it seems not from what Dan said above, you purchased a licence to use the application on one OS only. This is made clear in paragraph 3.i of the End User Licence Agreement – use menu “Help → About” and then click on the EULA link on that dialog for the EULA text. Quote (with my added emphasis, and you can substitute macOS for Windows in your EULA): The licence granted to you is limited, non-transferable and non-exclusive. Except to the extent any rights cannot be excluded by law, you are permitted: (i) if you are a private individual, to download, install, use and run for personal use, one (1) copy of the Serif Software directly on each computer running Microsoft Windows (“Windows Computer”) that you personally own or control. It is also clear when you purchase licences for the software from the Serif website as each OS has it’s own “Buy Now” button to press. Quote

What you buy is clearly mentioned on several pages on Serifs website. When I moved from my Macbook back to Windows several years ago, I checked upfront whether my licenses are valid on the new platform. emmrecs01 1 Quote Regards, Otto Affinity Suite v2.6.x - Windows 11 Pro
