Problem creating custom brush (split)

Recently I bought an Affinity software package, because I really don't like the new Adobe 'subscription only' principle. That is the main reason for me to support Affinity. I have decades of experience with Adobe software. One of the first things I tried was making custom brushes in Affinity Designer, but I was unpleasantly surprised how hard it is to make brushes. So far I've had no succes.

In Adobe Illustrator you draw a vector shape, select the shape and click 'make brush' and you can use it instantly. It blows my mind that making a brush in Affinity Designer is this complicated. Making a "vector brush" using a png? Really? I feel like there are so many 'hoops to jump through' to make a custom brush in Affinity Designer that there is way too much room to make mistakes in the proces.

Making calligraphy brushes in Affinity Designer is hard or even impossible and Affinity Designer offers no calligraphy brushes in the brushes panel. With my main focus on making custom lettering it's very important to me to be able to make custom brushes easily. It seems Affinity Designer is still way off to being a replacement for Adobe Illustrator. But I will continue to use Affinity Designer for the things that it's made for and I can only hope for better functionality in the (hopefully near) future.

A Moderator decided that it did not fit well where you posted it, and Split it to its own topic (and added "(Split)" to the topic title). It may not have been strongly related to the original discussion, or they may have felt that it deserved the visibility it would get by being in its own topic.

But creating topics where none are wanted by the user makes for a lot more topics about the same thing...which they say they want to avoid.

Apologies, I'm not entirely certain why your post was split to a new topic as in my opinion it seems to suits the original thread you posted in - however as this post is now erring on the side of Feedback, rather than a direct question, I'm going to move this thread to the relevant section of our forums.
