GarryP Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 Welcome to the forums @GRAPHITI I’m not entirely sure of the relevance of your question to the Affinity software but… Are you absolutely sure it was called “Sign Post” and not something like “Sign Cut”? If so, how old are we talking about, and do you have a picture of the manual cover or a screenshot or something that we can look at? The less information you give the more you are relying purely on the memory of what is probably a relatively small number of people. Quote

William Overington Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 I pasted your post into Bing Chat ai. Here is the response ---- I found some information that might be helpful. There’s a discussion about the “Sign Post” software for vinyl cutters on the Affinity Forum1. However, it seems that the software might be quite old and not readily available. For Mac users, there are other options for vinyl sign making. For instance, Graphtec and Roland offer basic MAC-compatible software and Adobe Illustrator plug-ins2. This allows Apple computer users to still buy vinyl cutters and make signs2. Another software you might consider is SignMaster3, which is a standalone software for designing and making signs, T-shirts, lettering, pinstripes, logos, decals and even cutting out card to make boxes and a variety of other designs, all using a vinyl cutter3. However, you would need to check if it’s compatible with Macintosh. Please note that software compatibility can change over time, so it’s always a good idea to check the latest system requirements before making a purchase. I hope this helps! ---- I hope this helps. William Overington Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 (edited) I did a restart of Bing Chat ai and asked as follows. Looking for very old Macintosh software for vinyl cutters. Bing Chat AI replied as follows. There are several older software options for Macintosh that are compatible with vinyl cutters: Sign Post: This is a very old software specifically for vinyl cutters1. Graphtec Studio & Cutting Master: Graphtec Studio is a basic vector design application that includes file management tools, standard editing tools, quick-edit toolbars, style tools, fill and stroke editing, shapes, gradient and pattern fills, shape libraries, welding tools, and more2. Cutting Master 3 is a plug-in that adds a Cut/Plot function to Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW enabling users to send files to the plotter directly from their design software2. XFCut: This is a sign making and vinyl cutting plug-in software that works from within Adobe Illustrator3. Graphtec Studio for Mac: This is a standalone design and cut software to operate their cutter4. Please note that the availability of these software may vary, and some may no longer be supported. It’s always a good idea to check the software compatibility with your specific vinyl cutter model and Macintosh operating system version. If you need more recent software options, you might want to consider newer software solutions that are compatible with Macintosh and vinyl cutters5. ---- Alas, the reference to Sign Post is to this thread Edited January 12, 2024 by William Overington The reference to Sign Post is to this thread Quote Until December 2022, using a Lenovo laptop running Windows 10 in England. Back in 1995 I had a MacIICi and an Ioline 5000 with a tangential knife in place of the more common drag knife. Back then it seemed that there was an abundance of plotter software available for the Mac. I was using a program called "Sign Post" by Taylor Graphics it worked great but in 1997 I received a call from Taylor Graphics saying that due to health reasons Mr. Taylor was going to retire and that they were going to archive the program somewhere as freeware at the time I felt that with the set up I had I would not have to worry about upgrading but little did I know what the future had in-store for me. ... ... ... Lynne Bailey Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 William your response is unbelievably helpful. Yes Sign Post is very old software. I used a very old Mac Quadra, old version of Illustrator to design and Sign Post to manage the plotter. The Quadra failed and the Sign Post floppy is locked/ protected, so I was unable to retrieve the software from the computer. Graphitec was unable to recommend any other program for my vinyl cutter. I am not very computer literate and the fact that I got this much information from you after researching numerous sites is encouraging. I will look for Cutting Master 3 and XF cut now. THANK YOU for your help. William Overington 1 Quote
