mdesigns Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 Just started using Publisher (V2) for the first time yesterday! Excited. I am creating a photobook using Affinity Publisher today. In my Master page setup, I have inserted the Picture Frame Rectangle which inserts it on all the child pages as well. That's fine for me but there are a few pages I don't want it anymore. How do I remove it from specific pages? I selected the frame and clicked delete but nothing happened. Quote
Brian_J Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 To delete the Picture Frame, edit the Master Page detached on the page you want to remove the Picture Frame from. Instructions to enter Detached mode: https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/pages/Pages/detachLinkMasterPages.html Another option — one I usually prefer — would be to create multiple Master Pages so you don’t have to edit Master Pages detached. mdesigns Posted January 12, 2024 Author Posted January 12, 2024 Hi Brian, thank you so much for the quick response! Much appreciated. While I was waiting, a search on YouTube got me this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsjRg38IpiI But I am not seeing the "Master A - 2 Pages" he mentions and also mentioned in the link you sent: From the Layers panel, select the master page entry (e.g., 'Master A - 2 Pages') and choose an Edit option from the context toolbar (or right-click the master page's layer entry for equivalent options). What is the Context toolbar? Also, by mistake, I closed the "Layer" and "Character" windows and I don't know how to get them back. Please see the attachment. Quote
mdesigns Posted January 12, 2024 Author Posted January 12, 2024 Update: I managed to find it this way and it seems to be working: Layer > Master Page > Edit Detached Brian_J 1 Quote
Brian_J Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 @mventures “Master A” is the default name of the first Master Page… if you changed the Master Page name, that’s what you’ll want to look for in the Layers Panel. The Context Toolbar is the horizontal toolbar above the page that changes depending on which tool is selected. There’s an interactive image on the following Affinity Help page you can click on to see what the sections of the UI are named: https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/pages/Workspace/interface.html Quote Windows 10 22H2 | Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 (MSI/EXE)
mdesigns Posted January 12, 2024 Author Posted January 12, 2024 I had retained the default name of Master A - 2. Thanks for the link and going through it now. How do I get back the Layer and Character panels to show up again on the bottom right window? I had closed it by mistake. Note: I managed to edit the child pages using the top menu option. Quote

mdesigns Posted January 12, 2024 Author Posted January 12, 2024 Awesome! Thank you NathanC! Much appreciated. Quote
mdesigns Posted January 13, 2024 Author Posted January 13, 2024 I noticed when I move from 1 spread to another while editing, the "Layer > Master Page > Edit Detached" exits. This means I have to turn it on for every spread. Is there a way to leave that "unlocked" till I finish everything? thomaso 1 Quote

Is there a way to leave that "unlocked" till I finish everything? Unfortunately not. There is also no modifier key option to click-select an object inside a master page layer for temporary editing, instead you always need to select the parent master page layer first to activate the "detach" state for its child layers. And if you have several master layers applied you need to "detach" them individually (unless one master is nested in the other). mdesigns Posted January 13, 2024 Author Posted January 13, 2024 OK, thank you. The saving grace has been the keyboard shortcut (shift-cmd-d) which is quicker than using the menu. Quote

No, and that's a reason not to have things on a Master Page that you don't want on all its children, and a good reason to have multiple Master Pages.
