Gripsholm Lion Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 I was having trouble with cropping one particular image in Photo 2.3.1. I just got what you see in this video. I couldn't stop it from cropping from the top left corner, regardless of ratio, constraint, etc. I tried unlocking the layer, duplicating the layer, and so on. Other images can be cropped as normal. I ended up pasting it into a new document and got on with my day, but I would love to know the cause because I have never seen this oddity before. Screen Recording 2024-01-11 at 15.10.42.mov Quote
loukash Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 Usually this is just a canvas redraw issue/bug. Just briefly zoom in and out to make the canvas redraw, and you'll see the actual crop. Gripsholm Lion Posted January 11, 2024 Author Posted January 11, 2024 Well, well. it seems that you are right. I wonder why this one image can consistently trigger it (it did it again when I tried your advice) when no other ever has (that I can recall). Thanks. Quote
loukash Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 There was a somewhat similar bug in Publisher that was fixed in the meantime. Possibly related, i.e. not fully fixed yet. Dan C Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 Thanks for your report @GripsholmLion! I suspect this may be due to the metadata within this specific image - as I've tested using your file and other images here and I'm currently unable to replicate this, however directly uploading the image to the forums will have stripped/changed the metadata, meaning I'm essentially opening a slightly different image from yourself. Are you able to provide a copy of this image in a .ZIP format, so that I receive the file with the same metadata as yourself? Can you also please confirm: What version of macOS are you using? Are you running an Intel or ARM (M1,M2,M3) based mac? Many thanks in advance Quote
PaulEC Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 There are several versions of this image available online, I'm just wondering where this was downloaded from and have you tried using other versions? I'll be sure to check that out because so far I couldn't find a pattern when exactly it occurs. 1 hour ago, Dan C said: What version of macOS are you using? loukash Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 Just now, Dan C said: have you replicated this issue with the above image, or are have you simply seen this occur previously on your setup? I had it happen with various images on my Mac that I wanted to crop. I don't remember if they were from Teh Interwebs or some of my own scans though. Also, it wasn't just the crop alone, but upon opening an image, any initial interaction like inpainting brush, curve adjustment etc. remained invisible until briefly zooming in/out and causing a redraw. Also, Metal acceleration was/is active. Haven't tried without yet either. I'll report back when I have something new to report… Dan C 1 Quote MacBookAir 15": MacOS Sonoma > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 18 > Affinity v2
