After the latest update (Jan 2024) all the layers tools freeze after 30 seconds or so. The software has to be closed using task manager after that. I've removed Affinity and installed from my hard drive copy. I plan to refrain from updating hoping the next update will fix this but I write this in case someone comes up with a fix before then.

I don 't know the update no. but I am now running a stable Affinity 2.1.1 from my hard drive copy on Windows 10 and eagerly await a fix for this so I can update.

HI @Alchusand Welcome to the Forums,

This isn't something i've been able to replicate here and also isn't something i've personally seen reported before.

Did this only happen with files you had already create or did it also happen on new files?  So we can do a bit of fault finding, would you mind installing the update and once installed, start a new blank file, add some layers and see if you can replicate the issue.  If you can replicate it, then try opening Affinity and clicking Edit>Settings and on the Performance section, disable hardware acceleration, close Settings and you'll be asked to restart Affinity.  Once restarted, see if you can replicate the issue again and let me know the results.

Thanks stokerg,

AP did this on my desktop computer but only once. Shortly after I started using AP with my Surface and it did it every time. But I think it might have been a failure in the update install. Once I mustered the courage to reinstall from the hard drive and update again everything seemed to work fine.

So, just a bad install process.

Thanks for getting back to me, stokerg.
