Dan C Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 Hi @Superior_Kitten, Welcome to the Affinity Forums & sorry to see you're having trouble! Unfortunately I'm not currently able to replicate this issue in a new file - are you able to provide a copy of the .afdesign file where this crash occurs? Many thanks in advance! Quote
Frozner Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Hi i had the same problem, whole my project gonne after crash, 7h works lost. Why Affinity Designer dosnt temporary files in some folder, every 30sec saving not working. That situation happens me twice. I opened af.design file again, and nothing are there. I stopping trust AD as app to professional work. Quote
Dan C Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Sorry to hear you're having trouble @Frozner. 17 hours ago, Frozner said: whole my project gonne after crash, 7h works lost Was the .afdesign file not manually saved during 7 hours of work? Although autosave can be a good way of the app recovering the most recent steps taken in a file, I certainly wouldn't recommend relying on this for document backup, in any application. I'd recommend using File > Save to create your .afdesign file initially, and if you then need to create multiple backups/restore points of this document, you can use File > Save As to create a new document as a incrementation over the last file. 17 hours ago, Frozner said: Why Affinity Designer dosnt temporary files in some folder, every 30sec saving not working You can control how often .autosave files are created in Affinity apps within the apps settings, which are saved to a temporary folder on your device. These are retained when closing/opening/crashing the application, but may not be retained between machine restarts. In my testing, these files are correctly created, retained and recalled by the app when required. Again I would never recommend relying on autosave files for backup purposes, they should only be relied on in specific circumstances - the best protection against data loss in any situation is regular saving and backups. Frozner Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 before i starting a new project I saving it and name it on external disc SSD. When whole project was finished i wanted save it as JPG so app stopped working, i was waiting longe enough and after that i had force to stop app. When ive tried open again i had only that was was on the beginning not restore my latest work Maybe good solution will be do some video tutorial how to get back lost files when app will stopped working, how to prevent that situation in future? Thanks for confirming that for me - our team recommend always saving to a local location for files you're actively editing/creating, and then creating a copy of this file on an external disk for backup purposes. Working directly on an Affinity document from an external SSD can cause issues with files, and may explain why the autosave feature did not work as expected for you. Quote
