DieterW Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Due to my experience a better option for controlling the pinning settings (for Publisher) would be necessary. I think the best option would be to add pinning to the text styles (character section). This should be sufficient to handle all cases, at least I came across. A separate style or preset option just for pinning would not be necessary I think. Viktor CR 1 Quote

Both are already crowded enough, and the modal window is an absolutely wrong UI for this kind of feature. Also, pinning is not a character attribute. In fact, it's totally independent of any character attributes. At best, it makes use of some paragraph attributes. If anything, we could use some separate "Pinning Style" feature in the existing Pinning panel. MikeTO Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Affinity doesn't have object styles, just presets which are confusingly called Styles, but someday when it gains that feature I assume that the pinning attributes would become part of the object style definition. The same goes for text frame attributes, picture frame attributes, etc. SillyWalk 1 Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.6 for macOS Sequoia 15.5, MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) and iPad Air (M2)
DieterW Posted February 17, 2024 Author Posted February 17, 2024 I know and I miss the object styles too. But I was aware of this and didn't suggest object styles. I think I did not express myself clearly. Pinning is closely related to text of course and therefore I think it would be more appropriate to have the possibility to set the pinning options for a text style (rather than object style). When I use pinning I use different pinning settings for different text styles, e.g. headings or normal text. Now it is more annoying than helpful that the last used settings are reapplied. It may be my way of work, but after creating the basic content I jump back and forth a lot and add new objects to the text in different places and so it seldom helps. In addition I end up a lot with inconsistent objects within my text, mostly because of copying them between locations with different settings... But if I could set the pinning options for a text style that would give me consistent and almost always correct settings for a newly inserted or copied object. This together with the inconsistent and faulty Pinning Offset implementation makes using Pinning not an enjoyable experience for me. Quote

Pinning options styles would definitely be great. I don't remember InDesign having anything like that. My biggest pet peeve with Affinity pinned objects is, however, that they float above text. I desperately need an option to place pinned objects behind text. (A workaround is to use blend modes which may work alright in certain scenarios.) Viktor CR Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 I just encountered the same insufficiency and wish it was possible 😊 Quote
