thepiranha Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 I'm a new Affinity user and I'm having an issue with some of my photos. After I edit them, I export them to my desktop and a some of my photos are much darker than when I edited them. This is happening to only a few of my photos and it's very frustrating. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Also, when I drag an unedited photo into Affinity for editing, the photo is getting cropped. I want to begin editing by using my entire photo. I'm not very tech savvy and I would appreciate it very much if someone could help me out on one or both of these issues. Thanks so much! Quote

What format did you Export them in? And what are you using to view them after Export? What OS do you use? 32 minutes ago, thepiranha said: Also, when I drag an unedited photo into Affinity for editing, the photo is getting cropped. I want to begin editing by using my entire photo. Are you dragging it into an existing document? Or are you dragging it in such a way that Photo Opens it as a new document? Where are you dragging it from? Do you have the same problem if you use File > Open from within Photo? thepiranha Posted January 9, 2024 Author Posted January 9, 2024 I'm dragging the photos onto my desktop. Some of the photos look great after exporting them, but some are very dark. They darken when I finish editing and move my mouse to the export button. I'm on a Mac using Sonoma 14.1.1. Quote
walt.farrell Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Can you record a video of that happening for an image, and provide the original file and a Saved .afphoto? The "desktop" is not an area of Affinity but rather the area behind an app window. https://techterms.com/definition/desktop When you drag an image from your explorer (win) or finder (mac) into the Affinity app window then there are two options: • dragging onto the pasteboard or interface (e.g. panels) then the image gets opened as new document without any cropping. • dragging in an existing document onto the canvas (artboard/page) then the image gets placed and may appear visually cropped if the existing document has smaller dimensions than the dragged image. If you then choose "Unclip canvas" the full image gets displayed and its canvas gets the size of the image. HVDB Photography Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 @thepiranha Why export to a PNG file? Instead choose JPEG or TIFF Quote Affinity Photo 2.3.1 Laptop MSI Prestige PS42 Windows 11 Home 23H2 (Build 22631.3007) - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8565U CPU @ 1.80GHz 2.00 GHz - RAM 16,0 GB
thomaso Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 The profile appears to matter in this case. There is a known bug with the Apple Wide Colour profile: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&tags=AF-473 Itt was reported by @Serif Info Bot to be fixed, so you might need to update your version: Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6
