Darner Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Hi Experienced small different issues in Affinity Designer 2.3, after setting Global Colors in Swatches. Things like: - Design elements disconnects from the color. I reconnect and it works, then it doesn't work. - Color changes a little bit after closing / opening the document. Example set to RGB 150 150 150 , later can be 152 150 150. - CMYK 0 0 0 100 can suddenly turn into 50 40 60 80 ish. - Seems like Grouped Symbols are not affected by Global Colors, until each Symbol is ungrouped. In general seems buggy. Might worth having a look at for coming update. Quote
Staff NathanC Posted January 10, 2024 Staff Posted January 10, 2024 Hi @Darner, We'll need some more information in regards to your encountered issues: 23 hours ago, Darner said: - Design elements disconnects from the color. Is it possible that you're changing the fill of an object from the context toolbar or Colour panel rather than via the Edit Fill/Edit Global Colour options? This action will override an object's global colour and just assign it a standard fill colour. If not, can you provide any specific steps, a sample file and/or a screen recording which demonstrates this issue? 23 hours ago, Darner said: - Color changes a little bit after closing / opening the document. I'm also not seeing any of these issues in my test documents, global colours correctly retain their values between document and app sessions and editing a global colour that is applied to grouped symbols via the colour panel correctly affects and updates the objects, similar to the above can you provide a sample file/screen recording/Steps to replicating this issue? Many thanks Quote

Many thanks It is not an instant bug that occurs every time, so a screen recording might be a bit tricky. Have not changed the fill of an object from the context toolbar or Colour panel as you mention. The global colors these issues were seen recently was with grey scales like CMYK 0 0 0 100 / 80 / 60 / 40 / 20, and other document with RGB from 0 0 0 to 200 200 200 and 50 increase in between. Quote

Many thanks Hi Nathan. The test you made may not be enough for this issue. After understanding the issue a bit more on this side: Looks like the issue occurs when switching / opening new document, where one has rgb profile with rgb global colors, and the following document has cmyk profile with cmyk global colors. The Swatches (global color) panel, seems to not fully be able to switch without loosing the accurate global color setting. Which means if I had 0 0 0 20 cmyk on global color, and opens this document after working with rgb global color document, the cmyk converts to 16 13 14 0 (in one scenario). If testing with a single shape on screen only, there may not be much noticeable issue, but that is not the scenario here. Hope this is now sufficient enough information for understanding the issue, and hopefully fix it in following update. Also see attached Quote

If so, there is no need to send documents. Hopefully you'll be able to replicate. Attached are color palette for both rgb and cmyk. So just try replicate by opening one of them with proper color mode related to the palette. Make sure the global colors (palette) are in the same mode as document color mode, by double clicking on them. Then you try switching to the other document color profile with the other global color / color palette. Then you'd probably see the issue. Also read previous post if anything unclear. Staff NathanC Posted February 19, 2024 Staff Posted February 19, 2024 Hi @Darner, Thanks and yeah i'm definitely observing the conversion issue when switching between two documents and subsequently double clicking the global colour, this can actually be replicated in a single doc by just changing the colour mode dropdown in the 'Edit fill' dialog. For example, in a CMYK document using your CMYK palette I assigned an object the 0/0/0/20 global colour. When I Right click that swatch > Edit Colour and then switch the colour mode from CMYK to RGB and then back to CMYK the values then changed from 0/0/0/20 to 16/13/13/14. This is looking like a bug as it shouldn't be automatically updating the CMYK values when changing the colour mode, i'll get this logged with the developers. Quote

Hi @NathanC, This isn't a new bug, this has been an issue since the very first version of the Affinity apps and was reported on several occasions in the V1 cycle but appears to be one that was never fixed... I was getting some deja vu when writing it up and i've now found it internally, thanks! I'll get the original updated to reflect that it's still outstanding in V2 and will hopefully get some attention on it. Hangman 1 Quote

Graphic74 Posted February 26, 2024 Posted February 26, 2024 No offence to anyone but, let's say this topic (colors in general and where to change them from rgb to cmyk and viceversa) need to improve, a lot. Quote
