Today, I launched affinity publisher 2 and it asked to update. I said yes, and it upgraded to version 2.3.1. However, I can no longer export save without it locking up any clickable options in publisher. It will not save or react to any menus. I have to hard kill process to get it to close. I can save the normal affinity file, but not export to PDF or JPG, etc.

Clicking on the program is unresponsive.

Editing/saving regular affinity files is fine. it is only the File > Export that crashes the program. There is no error message.  Process list shows 0% CPU usage, and there is no "not responding" error popup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry forgot that. Windows 11 Pro. I uninstalled version 2.3.1 and reinstalled 2.3.0 from archived file and was able to save the file export.  (my main concern in order to get a revised menu to someone). I have not yet tried to clean reinstall 2.3.1 again.

Hi @Ottermione,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums & sorry to hear you're having trouble!

I'm unfortunately unable to replicate this behaviour here currently - although I appreciate you have returned to 2.3.0 to resolve this issue, can you please confirm for me:

  • Was this occurring when exporting any document, or only a specific file?
If only with a specific file, are you able to attach a copy of this document here for me?
  • What location were you attempting to export to? (ie local disk, Cloud storage folder, external USB drive, etc)
  • Were you exporting using a custom export preset that you have previously created?

Many thanks in advance :)

I'm experiencing that exact same scenario. I upgraded to v2.3.1 today, and now when I try to export, nothing happens. If I click anywhere on my screens get a beeping tone. I need to hit the esc key to get out of whatever is going on.

I'm running Windows 11 Pro version 10.0.22621 Build 22621 on a ROG Strix G531GW_G531GW Laptop

The files I'm working with are on my local computer.

Re: Was this occurring when exporting any document, or only a specific file?

Yes. I tested affinity files, SVG, png. No difference.

Re: What location were you attempting to export to? (ie local disk, Cloud storage folder, external USB drive, etc) ---and--- Were you exporting using a custom export preset that you have previously created?

These questions are irrelevant because the export box does not open, which is before those decision are made.

I just downloaded v2.3.0 and installed it. It did not make a difference, but I likely will need to restart my computer. I'll do that and provide an update.

*** Update***

So I restarted my computer. Tested. Fail

Uninstalled Both versions of Affinity Designer and Restarted. Installed Affinity Designer 2 veriosn 2.3.0 Fail

Resorted to installing Affinity Designer 1 version 1.10.6 and that works.

For now I can continue to work, but this is a time suck and it would be nice to find a solution.

Thanks for any insights on how to deal with this.

Hi @Jules Webb,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums & sorry to hear you're having trouble!

Just to confirm, when navigating to File > Export with any document open, are you seeing the Export dialog within Affinity show?

If so, when selecting Export here, does Windows Explorer not show, and it's at this point you hear the 'beep' tone when clicking?

Or is the above Export dialog not showing at all for you?

Many thanks in advance!

That's the issue. That Export Dialog panel does not present.

Do you ever use additional monitors with that computer? If so, are they all attached and powered on now?

@walt.farrell OMG! I do. And I have my laptop closed. In the past, the laptop screen mirrored one of the desktop screens -- but a recent update of Windows has changed that, so the laptop screen is its own --- AND I'm embarrassed to say --- the Export Dialog box was on my closed laptop screen.  So, with egg on my face, I'm going to just be happy it was such a simple, albeit embarrassing, issue.

Thank you, Walt, for bringing that possibility to my attention!

Glad that fixed it. Ideally, in my opinion, the software would react better to such changes in monitor configuration.
