If you search the Publisher help for "Tile" does the information presented there not do what you want to do?

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

You can use the Gradient Tool and select the Bitmap fill type from the Context Toolbar.

The bitmap that you use for such a fill will need to be taken from storage rather than the document itself.

I want to tile this image across a rectangular area.

If I understand correctly, there are two ways to do this:

Method A:

  1. You can create several shapes
  2. Combine them into one shape using geometry functions
  3. Then convert the resulting shape into a picture frame and place the image in it.

Method B:

It is very similar to method A, but you don't convert the shape to an image frame, instead you place the image as child layer and take advantage of the image being clipped to the shape bounds.

… and a third with the tiles as cropping mask for the image layer. The group's elements don't need to be converted to curves. With "Lock Children" activated the image gets transformed independently of its nested mask.

I think @bobdobbs needs to clarify whether it's a pattern tiling effect or a single image gridded.
