Hello,

1)
I was trying to create a cloud Shape Preset. I created some circles, used Boolean Operations to Add them together and made sure all shapes were touching to create the final shape. When I click on the Gear for the shape tool presets, the Create Preset is grayed out. If I make a simple shape (e.g.; a box) the Create Preset option is available. (screen shots attached)

Why am I unable to create this cloud preset? (albeit, your clouds are very nice...)

2)
Used the Pen tool to create a line. I wanted a dotted line • • • . Using the stroke panel, I entered zero and the second dialog (space for dash) insisted upon .05. Perhaps this is a feature to ensure the dot appears...?

Thanks.
Barb.

As per the forums guidelines, questions for different subjects should be asked in one thread for each question. This helps to keep the replies to each question separate and easier to read - less 'cross-talking'.

The Presets are there to store and retrieve the values of the parametric variables in Quick Shapes, e.g. Number of Sides, Corner Type, etc.

Once you have done something which causes a Quick Shape to become a Curve, or Curves, layer, such as using the Geometry functionality, you can no longer make a Preset from it as the parametric variables are lost.

What I think you need to use is Assets which are reusable shapes which have no parametric variables – they are ‘static’ shapes.

You cannot have a dotted line which has zero values for all those dash settings as that wouldn’t make sense – there would be nothing to draw.

You will notice that the first entry is a dash as indicated by the light grey mark below the input box. If a round cap is set to a setting of zero (0) it is a circle dash (dot), else a square cap will result in a square dash, the second entry is the space. With a setting of one (1) the dots/dashes are touching, with a setting of 0.05 the dots are overlapping to the point where it will look like a line not a dashed line, if you want space between the dots use a setting above one (1) .

Example of space setting less than one (1) i.e. 0.5, a setting of 0.05 is almost imperceptible unless you zoom in a lot.
