How to limit brush?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I use the brush tool and want to limit the paint direction vertically and or horizontally but could not find how.

I tried SHIFT, ALT, CMD but it does not work.

In the SHIFT case a straight line gets drawn from the last point I released the mouse button. But this is not what I need.

Is there any way to limit any painting tool horizontally / vertically?

Is it possible to create a path with the pen tool and make a brush or any other tool follow this path?

Thanks...

Hi mr.burns,

No, apart from pressing the ⇧ (shift) key to force a straight line there's currently no way to create a vertical/horizontal line using the Paint Brush Tool.

It also not possible to stroke a path with a brush in Affinity Photo yet.

Hi,

just to make it clear using the SHIFT key does not create a horizontal/vertical line.

It draws a line from the last position I released the mouse button to that position I click next.

That means there is currently no tool available to limit drawing horizontal, vertical or any selected degree.

So it would be really nice to have a tool which can draw along a path.

Then you would have all you need wether drawing exact horizontally / vertically (uisng a horizontal/vertical path) or following a path e.g. a curved one.

I created a new idea for this:

In the meantime you could always slide your mouse along your desk, pressed up to a ruler. Crude solution, but it should give a straight line.

Haha - yes! It feels a bit like that, doesn't it. Makes me remember all the effort we used to have to put in, sending type to the typesetter, rubbing down Letraset, drawing up a design on a board with printer instructions in blue pencil. Old school nostalgia perhaps, but still I'm very glad for what we can now do digitally, even if some things have to wait!
