Ken Hjulstrom Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Hi, I'm using Publisher 2 2.3.0, and I'd like to make a copy of an existing Export preset that I created with a version of Publisher 1 back in 2020. When I open the "Export" dialog and select the Export preset that I created and then click on the "hamburger menu" icon to the right of the Preset dropdown, the only active options that are displayed are "Delete preset" and "Rename preset". The "Create preset" option is disabled. is this the correct approach to creating and/or copying presets, or is there another place in the UI where I should be doing this? Thanks! Ken Quote
Staff MEB Posted January 3, 2024 Staff Posted January 3, 2024 Hi @Ken Hjulstrom, If the current options of that preset match the options of an already existing preset then the Create Preset button will remain greyed out/unavailable (to avoid creating duplicates). Change one of the options of that preset and the command Create Preset will become available again. Ken Hjulstrom 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Ken Hjulstrom Posted January 3, 2024 Author Posted January 3, 2024 Hi, I think I figured it out. Apparently, if I make a change to one of the settings of an existing preset, this enables the "Create preset" option. For a PDF export preset, changing the "Resample" value in my existing preset enabled the "Create preset" option, but changing the "Raster DPI" did not, so apparently, this only works for a subset of the export options. In my opinion, the "Create preset" should be enabled without the need to have to alter an existing preset, which to me is not only an obscure way to initiate the creation of a new preset, but is rather "scary", as I tend to not want to tweak export parameters that have been working well for a long time. My intial approach was to "make a copy first, and then alter it", which doesn't seem to be supported? Thanks, Ken Quote

As MEB said, you must make a change, then create the Preset. Making a change does not change the existing Preset, only the Export you'll make if you continue on, so there's really nothing scary about it. This approach makes sense, but it can be confusing if you don't know this approach, as there's no visible cue that this is what has to be done, nor did I find anything about creating presets in the Publisher "help" menu. Thanks again, Ken Quote

Sure? To me (in V1) changing the "Raster DPI" does enable the "Create preset…" option. Note, a change done to an existing preset is indicated by its disappearing entry in the preset menu. As soon you alter any setting then a current preset entry should get removed from this field + the preset creation should get enabled. Staff MEB Posted January 3, 2024 Staff Posted January 3, 2024 Hi @Ken Hjulstrom, Thanks for your feedback. It should work for almost all options including the "Raster DPI" field but there's a bug here that's preventing the value you insert in that field from being accepted despite displaying it in the field so the command "Create Preset" never becomes available. When you makes changes to the options of a preset, the name of the preset you started with should become blank and the Create Preset command available as @thomaso pointed out already, which should make clear that you are dealing with a new "custom" preset. If you press Enter or click the Export button in that dialog to move on with the export, cancel the process in the following dialog where it asks for the name of the file, and then export again you will see that the value you inserted remains there in the Raster DPI filed but now the Create Preset button is available. I'm logging this to be looked at. Ken Hjulstrom 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
