MPH67 Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Hi Guys, I apologise if there are other threads on specifically Gigapixel ai but I can’t find anything anywhere directly relating to this. I am trying to add the trial version as a plugin but even applying the correct path is proving to be a trial. Are my settings correct? ‘Authorise global’ is greyed out no matter what the path. Is Gigapixel even compatible as a plugin or do I have to use it externally then reimport to affinity once upscale? It’s obviously something really simple that I’m missing but any advice greatly welcome 👍🏻. Thanks very much martin Quote
Staff MEB Posted January 3, 2024 Staff Posted January 3, 2024 Hi @MPH67, Welcome to Affinity Forums Affinity Photo only supports basic image filters (single pixel layers). Anything relying on custom UI/panels, automation, other plugin types (file formats import/export etc) will not work. Topaz Gigapixel outputs an image with different dimensions thus is not supported and can't be used within Affinity Photo. Juhani 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
MPH67 Posted January 3, 2024 Author Posted January 3, 2024 Thanks for replying so quickly 👍🏻. So there’s literally no point using G AI to upscale a low res image then? Is that right? Are affinity’s native resize algorithms good enough in your opinion? I have a Canon R6 which is only 20mp so could do with something decent to increase image size for cropping/printing. I had been thinking of exchanging for the 45mp R5 but the price is putting me off 😬🫣😂. Cheers Quote
Staff MEB Posted January 3, 2024 Staff Posted January 3, 2024 Hi @MPH67, No, you can still use Gigapixel AI as an independent app to increase the image size. It just doesn't work within Affinity Photo as a plugin. Affinity Photo's native algorithms are not on par with the output of a specialized app as Topaz Gigapixel to increase the image size in my opinion. I use it (and others) myself for those operations. MPH67 Posted January 3, 2024 Author Posted January 3, 2024 O.k I get it now, thanks very much for that👍🏻. I’ve tried it separately and I have to say I’m impressed so im Pleased you confirmed it can be used Im still learning at this game so can I ask what your workflow is with Topaz please? Do I go into topaz with the raw file and resize as a 1st step, or develop/ convert then resize? Cheers Quote
John Rostron Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 You need to visit the Topaz forum for gigapixel. Just Google 'Topaz gigapixel forum'. MPH67 Posted January 4, 2024 Author Posted January 4, 2024 Hi John, thanks for replying. I had looked through the topaz site and most conversations are revolving around P/s and Lightroom. There are posts about affinity but couldn’t find what I needed to know. I posted here because I couldn’t work out why it wasn’t loading in affinity as a plugin and hoped someone had experience with gigapixel / affinity and as a plugin specifically. I got the answer and I'm quite happy to use GAI as a separate app. Cheers John Rostron 1 Quote
