Hi, newbie here … old newbie … please be kind.

i have Publisher2 and Designer2. Bought them at different times, and now need photo. Bad financial moves.

anyway, can I only erase and background erase in Photo?

I have looked all over the place and see mention of an eraser brush all over the place, but cannot find an eraser brush anywhere in tools,

I get annoying things like “it’s easy… just import your item, select the eraser tool …”

THERE IS NO ERASER TOOL.

Can anyone help an old fool please?

Dave

You should have an Eraser Brush Tool in the Pixel Persona in the Designer application. You won't have it in the Publisher application.

Depends on what you mean with background erase concrete here? - As you might know Affinity Photo is mostly used for manipulating pixel/bitmap data, so that comes along with an Eraser brush tool for pixel layers. - Affinity Designer on the other side is mainly a vector drawing app and vectors behave different here from pixels. So in order to get rid of anything in Designer's vector layers, you would select & remove certain canvas filling (in the layers panel) unneeded/unwanted curve/shape/vector objects, or hide their visibility in the layers panel.

Further all Affinity apps support to create documents with transparent backgrounds instead of the default white shade background and they also support to do this afterwards, via altering the initial document settings by enabling the transparent background option (enabling that checkbox).

☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Thanks both.

I thought that if I was in Publisher, (with Designer open) and chose the Designer persona I would get ALL the Designer options, ie erase, showing, as well as Publisher tools Not the case. Just some.

I have just opened Designer on its own et viola! Need a technology degree these days.

Happy new year incidentally. Dave

In the Designer Persona of Publisher you will only have access to the functionalities which are available in the Designer Persona of Designer, not the other Personas of Designer, e.g. Pixel Persona, Export Persona.

In the Photo Persona of Publisher you will only have access to the functionalities which are available in the Photo Persona of Photo, not the other Personas of Photo, e.g. Liquify Persona, Develop Persona, etc.

I hope that helps to explain things a bit better.
