arif98 Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Hi, is the copy-paste supposed to be like this? (See attachment) So I try copying an object and pasting it inside a shape (using a shortcut), but the object is pasted somewhere too far from the shape? When using an artboard, I find the object I copy from one artboard and paste it into another, resulting in the same position. Is the problem because I'm not using an artboard within the object I'm working with? Since I'm using it a lot, its quite frustrating to always move it every time I paste the object. Thanks a lot. Try this way: Copy the object Ctrl+C Before you paste the object using Ctrl+V, select the shape and select View → Zoom → Zoom to Selection in the menu or use shortcut Ctrl+Alt+0. The object should be pasted in the center of the shape (when using same artboard/canvas),you can make some adjustments afterwards. If you are pasting between artboards it will be close to the shape but probably not in the center. I think there is no better way to do it. arif98 1 Quote

This is expected behavior. That's how it's designed. Whenever possible, the object will be pasted at the same X/Y position with some exceptions. Try experimenting with pasting and different zoom levels. You will find out what and how is best in your case. Quote
MikeTO Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 We had a very long discussion about Paste Inside this week in this other thread. The short summary is that it does paste inside, just not where most of us expect it to paste. It's predictable if you understand how it works but and I explained how it works. bbrother Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 @MikeTO Arif98 he did not express precisely what "paste inside" means to him. I think he wants to paste object, and he wants that it will be placed over the shape and within its boundaries only, rather than paste as a child layer clipped to the parent. An this is not the case for "Paste Inside" command that doesn't work properly. Am I right @arif98 , is that what you meant? Quote
arif98 Posted December 31, 2023 Author Posted December 31, 2023 Actually, i want to paste the shape and place it onto an object (as a child object) and of course, I want it within the boundaries. So as I copy the group which is located in one rectangle.. I want to paste it into another rectangle and expect to be at least in this other rectangle.. not somewhere far away that makes me always drag it away Anyway, thanks for all of your responses, I think I'll read about this in another post Quote

Although I must zoom a bit, it was easier than always drag the object Quote

The zoom level trick I suggested to you is just a temporary workaround until the "paste Inside" command will be fixed by devs, as this is the solution what you're looking for. arif98 1 Quote
Old Bruce Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 I have said this a number of times but I really wish we had a Context Menu (Right Click) with Paste Here and with Paste Replace if there is an item selected.
