norrman Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Hi guys! I am a new user of Affinity Designer and would like your help with such a simple thing as changing the color of a style... The style I am using is called Retro Style Plain. I love the textured look, but I'm not a fan of the color. Once I have selected the shape that has the style, I can change the color, but the selected color is affected by the style's own color. No matter what color I choose, the shape will get a brownish color. How the h*ll can I keep the nice texture of the style and still change the color? Thanks in advance, from a confused Swedish girl. Do ya see a fx symbol in the layer at the layer panel? norrman 1 Quote MAC mini M4 | MacOS Sequoia 15.5 | 16 GB RAM | 256 GB SSD AMD Ryzen 7 5700X | INTEL Arc A770 LE 16 GB | 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz | Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (26100.4061) Windows 11 Pro on VMWare Virtual Machine (on Mac) Affinity Suite V 2.6.1 & Beta 2.6 (latest) Interested in a free (selfhosted) PDF Solution? v_kyr Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 See ... screencast_style.mp4 In order to get rid of the Outline (yellow framing), disable that (Outline) in the FX panel. Instead in order to change the outline (framing) color, alter the outline gradient colorings accordingly. In order to create a new recolored style out of the edited/altered/changed one, select the shape you've altered (I've used a rect in above screencast) and add it in the styles panel as a new style to a new own styles category. So you have a custom colored style of that then. norrman 1 Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Thank you so much for your friendly welcome and your help! I do, and I am able to change the color of the shape and style, however, the choice of color is affected by the original color of the style. For example, if I choose a peachy color, the color of the style will still be brownish. How can I work around the problem? It's really just the texture of the style that I want to use. I'm inspired by the Instagram account @wetheurban's backgrounds and want to create something similar. Thank you so much in advance. Quote

I am able to change the color of the shape and style, just like you show, however, the choice of color is affected by the original color of the style. Thank you so much in advance, and happy new year! Quote

You will need to make a new Style to include the modifications you made if you want to apply the new formatting to something else as a Style. I don’t have the “Retro Style Plain” Style so I cannot see how it was created to give advice as to how to only use part of it, e.g. the texture only. norrman 1 Quote

v_kyr Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 If it's just for the texture, then just resample the texture part by adding noise to a fill color. - Example ... screencast_noise1.mp4 screencast_noise.mp4 So you don't need to use that Style at all for applying some noise texture. - Further you can copy/paste a previous made texture from one selected shape over to another selected one by using Edit -> Copy and then Edit -> Paste Style, which will copy over the fill color & noise settings (attributes) from one object (shape) to another one then (even they are not real Styles in the sense of styles from the styles panel). norrman 1 Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
