Is there any way to copy an area from an image type layer? In the example below I set a selection and using copy&paste. instead of copying the area it duplicates the whole layer.

I know that I can rasterise it and then copy&paste, but why not copy directly from an "image"?

APhoto?

Use Edit > Copied Flattened if you don't want to rasterise it

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Because a layer of type "Image" is a container, similar to other container layers like "Group", "Layer", "Picture Frame", "Text Frame", .afdesign, .pdf, .eps, .svg. Different to pure vector and pixel layer types an image container can have a resolution that differs from the document's resolution. Thus you can understand the need to rasterize as a consequence of a feature.

Yes, but wouldn't it be possible for AP to temporarily rasterise the image when you copy an area from it, so that you could grab it into the clipboard? Instead of manually going through duplicate layer - rasterise layer - copy&paste area and then delete the layer again.

EDIT: nevermind, "copy merged" was what i was trying to achieve.

Have you tried the suggestion made by @carl123 above?
