Problem before with 2.3.0 > After a .pdf export, affinity designer freezes and only a kill command is needed to shut everything down.
With the version 2.3.0.2165 Beta the problem has been solved.

How did I proceed?.
After .pdf import in a self-made A0 template I choose Edit Document and from there I choose .pdf export Raster DPI:300 and that works every time.
It was not possible in the previous version and Affinity kept freezing, which was very frustrating.

But why this happened I don't know.

Hi @Felix Gelukkig and welcome to the forums.

2.3.0 and beta 2.3.0.2165 are the same version so if one is hanging and the other isn't and you're positive there are no differences in the export settings then it's likely something to do with the setup of your retail (non-beta) version.

Try starting Affinity while holding down Ctrl and clearing your user data. If that doesn't solve it, Serif may need to see the file.

Good luck.

Hi MikeTo,

You're right it doensn't matter between 2.3.0 and beta 2.3.0.2165.
And Try starting Affinity Designer while holding down Ctrl and clearing your user data this also had no effect.
But what I did discover is the following.

First - I did import a .pdf drawing into an A0 template.
Second - I Click on the button Edit Document this opens a second window here i Remove what needs to be removed and from this windows I export a .pdf (thid works).
Thrid - Then I close all windows and create a new A0 template and import this .pdf and now I can always do a .pdf export again and again without Affinty freezing.

I don't know why this happens but it does work for me.
So if you first import a .pdf drawing into an A0 template and then edit it and then export it, Affinty Designer freezes.

Happy New Year to you 😏.

Hi @Felix Gelukkig,

Thanks for your report & our apologies for the delayed response here over the holiday period!

Unfortunately I'm unable to replicate this issue here, I've tested with both standard preset document sizes (A4 etc) and a custom created A0 template document with multiple PDF files.

After Placing the PDF file in the newly created document, I then used Edit Document and deleted objects from the placed PDF in a separate window, then closed this embedded document view and exported the main file to PDF.

Once exported, the app continued to function as expected for me and did not require a Force Close etc.

Therefore, can you please confirm for me:

  1. Are you using macOS or Windows with Affinity?
  2. What version of mac/Windows are you running?
  3. Does this happen with a standard preset document size (such as A4) or only when using your A0 Template document?
  4. Does this happen for multiple PDF files, or only a specific one?
  5. What exact PDF export settings are you using? (A screenshot of these would be helpful)

Are you also able to attach a copy of your PDF file you are placing, and preferably the created .afdesign file with the Placed & edited PDF present (which would cause your app to lock up, if you were to export to PDF in this state) or alternatively a copy of the template document?

This should allow me to investigate the issue further and report this to our developers as required. Many thanks in advance :)
