Good afternoon I am converting a song book PDF from PagePlus and then create a new TOC In AP ver2.  I trying to apply a text style of heading1 on the song title but I cannot seem to find anywhere to do this within Affinity Publisher.  Can anybody please assist on where I might find the list of of options such as body text etc. Cheers John

Hi John, there are three places you can do this. Select the text and then apply the style with:

  1. Text Styles panel - click Heading 1
  2. Paragraph panel - select Heading 1 from the unlabeled list below the alignment icons
  3. Context Toolbar - selecting Heading 1 from the list to the right of the pilcrow icon ¶

You might also want to read the Text Styles chapter of the free Publisher manual I've shared in this forum. The link is in my signature.

Cheers

@MikeTO Thanks for the quick response it would appear that the PDF file might be the problem because all I get with that is "new style". when I create a new AP file and text box all works as you have shown. I have the hardback manual but that was not much help either. So will download your free manual (with thanks) and press on.  It maybe I will have to create a new file and copy and paste the body text for my original.  Thanks very much John

PDF files do not contain Text Styles, and when you Open a file the only Text Styles the Affinity document contains are those from the file you Opened. Therefore, when you Open a PDF, you have no Text Styles at all.

You can import some from another document, though. Just Open a standard .afpub file that has the Text Styles you want (or create a new empty document with File > New, and Save it). Then use the panel preferences (3-bar burger menu) in the Text Styles panel and choose the Import option and select the file to import from.
