MikeTO Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Here's a simple test case of a bug with fitting footnotes. There are still some lurking issues with note fitting and they're difficult to figure out but this one is really straightforward. note numbering.afpub Open this document - when you open it the right frame will jump from not fitting the note to fitting it. The frames are identical but the one on the right has a fit issue. Delete the right frame and drag copy or copy/paste another copy of the left frame. The note won't fit. Move the frame so that the top snaps to align with the top of the left frame. Now pull the bottom size handle down so the note fits and then drag it back up until it snaps to align with the bottom of the left frame. Let go of the size handle. Now the note fits. MikeTO Posted December 16, 2023 Author Posted December 16, 2023 I'm trying to test a note numbering issue but keep finding fit issues. Here's a second example with a similar document, the only difference is I made the frames taller to avoid the bug I reported above. note numbering.afpub Duplicate page 1 Compare the frames on pages 1 and 2 Screen Recording 2023-12-16 at 2.24.22 PM.mov Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.6 for macOS Sequoia 15.4, MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) and iPad Air (M2)
Staff NathanC Posted December 17, 2023 Staff Posted December 17, 2023 Hey @MikeTO, I've now replicated and logged this with the developers. MikeTO 1 Quote
Hangman Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Hi @MikeTO, And just to add to the weirdness, duplicating your duplicate text frame places the footnote 'Below the Frame', despite the Notes panel still showing 'Bottom of Column' and if you then Edit in Designer and switch back via Edit in Publisher the Footnotes for the duplicated frames are then set correctly... note numbering.mp4 As does showing then hiding hidden text... note numbering hidden text.mp4 Quote Affinity Designer 2.6.3 | Affinity Photo 2.6.3 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.3 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
MikeTO Posted December 18, 2023 Author Posted December 18, 2023 @Hangman I don't believe that's an issue - the frame has hide overflow disabled. Hangman Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 @MikeTO, sorry, I didn't explain that so well... What I meant here was that in your sample file, when duplicating the source text frame with overflow disabled either via Alt Drag, Cmd J or Copy/Paste, the duplicated text frame incorrectly has overflow enabled with the footnote forming the overflow text but when overflow is disabled and then re-enabled on the duplicated text frame the footnote that initially appears as overflow text now appears correctly positioned in the text frame instead of as overflow text...
