Is there any way to delete the segment of the curve as marked with the red circle in the attached picture?

There's a tool called "Virtue Segment Delete" in CoreDRAW which can implement this function easily.

Use the knife tool, select the curve layer and mouse over the curve, the knife cursor will change to scissors and you can simply cut at the cursors point and delete the curve, you can also click and hold the mouse button to perform a knife cut but I find on single curves it's better to scissor cut as it's more accurate.

You can also use the shape builder tool set to - to simply delete the curve section inside the ellipse.

Hi Yaoif,

There's a few methods to achieve this, firstly you can select the curve and create two nodes where you wish to cut, then break the curve at both nodes and then remove the nodes.

Another method that's more precise

  1. Create a shape to cut the object with and position it where you wish to cut.
  2. Select both objects
  3. Hold alt and click the circle (it will become a darker outline to indicate its a Key Object)
  4. Use Layer > Geometry > Cut Curves with Key Object
  5. Your open curve is now cut into three pieces, allowing you to remove the inner part. If you want the remaining two parts as a single object you can then go to Layer > Geometry > Merge Curves

I'm afraid that you will not find such function in Affinity that would match the CorelDraw function you refer to.

In addition to the method Lee suggested:

  • in Affinity you can remove a segment between two nodes by clicking on it while using the CTRL key.
  • for simple lines, you can use the "Shape builder" tool, but that's all you can do with Affinity for now.

Note:  all of this, are just a poor substitution of what you are asking about.

Hi @Lee_T, Thanks for the detailed explanation of this cut function. It's not exactly the solution for my problem with trimming, but it's something I didn't know before. Lots to learn about the latest version of Affinity! 🙂

Thanks, @bbrother. This is exactly what I was looking for. It's the closest function to the "virtue cut" tool in CorelDRAW. Cheers! 😄
