  1. What Application are you using? [Designer/Photo/Publisher]
    Photo
  2. Are you using the latest release version?
    Yes, 2.3.0
  3. Can you reproduce it? (if you cannot then we may struggle to also, making it even harder to fix)
    No
  4. Does it happen for a new document? If not can you upload a document that shows the problem?
No and no: the document was lost upon the crash
  5. If you cannot provide a sample document then please give an accurate description of the problem for example it should include most of the following:

  •  What is your operating system and version (Windows 11, OSX Ventura, iOS 16 etc)?
    Windows 10 (22H2)
  • Is hardware acceleration (in Preferences > Performance) ON or OFF ? (and have you tried the other setting?)
    On
  • What happened for you (and what you expected to happen)
While dragging a layer, the program crashed and lost all of my work
  • Provide a recipe for creating the problem (step-by-step what you did).
Dragged a layer in the layers panel to reorder my layers. Not sure what conditions for dragging the layer caused this. I was working on this photo for 3 hours, so anything I did within those three hours could have affected this.
  • Screenshots (very handy) or a screen capture/video.
    Windows event file attached.
  • Any unusual hardware (like tablets or external monitors or drives that may affect things) or relevant other applications like font managers or display managers.
No, just an RTX 3060 with two monitors and an i9-12900K. No tablets plugged in when the crash happened, no external drives connected. Only things I could have done that could've been possibly considered "strange" was that I updated the program from 2.2.0 to 2.3.0 upon launch, I opened a .psd file, and I installed fonts on my computer while using the program.
  • Did this same thing used to work and if so have you changed anything recently? (software or hardware)
This is the first time I've encountered this crash. Layers have otherwise worked up to this point.

Hi @MCP,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums & thanks for your report :)

I personally experienced crashing in all Affinity apps this morning when re-ordering layers, which seemed to occur due to a recent Windows 10 update which had applied automatically overnight.

After restarting my PC, this crashing behaviour stopped altogether. Can you please try restarting your PC and let me know if this stops the problem from occurring for you?

Many thanks in advance!
