Simonkidd Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 I have a picture in Affinity Photo with many layers. If I grab/select a layer near the top of the visible layers in the layers window I can move it up and down within the visible range fine. But, I used to be able to drag the layer to the bottom of the panel and the panel would scroll so that I could for example, drag it to the bottom of the stack. It doesnt scroll now so I have to drag to the bottom of the panel, then scroll the panel, then drag the layer, then scroll the panel etc etc. Window 10. Quote
Hangman Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Hi @Simonkidd, This is working as expected on Mac so I don't know if it's a Windows-specific issue. If you need to move the selected layer to the bottom of the layer stack you can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl Shift [ or Ctrl [ to Move down by one layer at a time though I appreciate the layers panel should scroll. Are you doing anything differently to this... GarryP Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Dragging a layer from top to bottom, or bottom to top, in the Layers Panel doesn’t always work for me in Photo 2.3 on Windows 10 – see attached video – but this might be a slightly different issue (or I’m just doing it wrong). If I drop when the mouse pointer is near the top/bottom then it seems to work but not if I leave a ‘gap’. 2023-12-12 10-15-43.mp4 Hangman 1 Quote

That does seem to be somewhat buggy on Windows, on Mac the blue horizontal line showing the drop zone seems to be much more pronounced on Mac... Dan C Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Hi @Simonkidd, Thanks for your report! As shown in Garrys screen recording above, I'm seeing the Layers Studio scroll when moving a layer beyond the visible section of the Layers - however I do note that this hitbox detection seems to need a little tweaking when 'dropping' a layer with the cursor above/below the list itself, which I'm logging with our development team now. Though, I do note this doesn't directly match the behaviour you're reporting at this time. Are you able to provide a screen recording showing your exact workflow? As I'm unsure why the Layers Studio would not be scrolling for you. Many thanks in advance Quote
Simonkidd Posted December 12, 2023 Author Posted December 12, 2023 Hello - yes Im dragging down as shown in the first video above. Quote
Hangman Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Hi @Simonkidd, Any chance you could make and upload a quick screen recording so we can see exactly what is going on since there is no logical reason for this not working and it may help in figuring out the reason you're not seeing the layers panel scroll as expected... Simonkidd Posted December 12, 2023 Author Posted December 12, 2023 happens (for me) with both rasterised and non-rasterised layers, if thats any help. Quote
Staff MEB Posted December 12, 2023 Staff Posted December 12, 2023 Hi @Simonkidd, Welcome to Affinity Forums Please restart the app and check if it fixes the issue, if not, restart the PC and check again, then report back. Thank you. Hangman 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Simonkidd Posted December 13, 2023 Author Posted December 13, 2023 Hi. >I restarted the app. no change >then I restarted the PC (shut down then start) and the app - no change. I vaguely remember some time ago I had problem with dragging layers crashing the app and i needed to turn off Open CL acceleration to stop that. Quote
Hangman Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Hi @Simonkidd, Many thanks for the screen recording and for restarting both the app and your PC that's really helpful for ruling things out... I think it's extremely unlikely that disabling Hardware Acceleration will fix the problem but there is certainly no harm in trying that next. It will require you to restart the app so it's a quick and easy one to test... If that doesn't work could you try quitting Affinity Photo and then relaunching it while holding down the Ctrl Key. When you see the 'Clear User Data' screen, leave the first three default options checked and then click 'Clear' and let the app launch, then re-open your file and see whether you still experience the same issue with the lack of scrolling and let us know... Note: Any UI customisation you may have made to the toolbar and tools panel will be lost during this process and will need to be reset. I'm certainly not seeing the same behaviour in a sample document with varying layer-types. Is this only occurring in this specific document? For example, with the document I've attached below, are you able to scroll the layers panel with an active selection, as expected? 2023-12-13 17-18-26.mp4 SparkDrink.afphoto What are your Layer Studio settings? (location this is shown at the end of my recording above, if you're unsure) Many thanks once again Quote
Simonkidd Posted December 14, 2023 Author Posted December 14, 2023 Hi well thats weird. I shut down last night - a windows update occured (roll eyes). Started up to day and loaded in another file - (huge 2+ Gb file) - that was ok Went back to the original file - that was ok this time. So ok for now. Im doing some more editing today so will check it out again a bit later. Dan C and Hangman 1 1 Quote
Staff Affinity Info Bot Posted February 19, 2024 Staff Posted February 19, 2024 The issue "[WIN] Dragging a Layer whilst auto-scrolling the Layers Studio then releasing the selection can cause the layer to be moved to a random location in the layers stack" (REF: AF-1537) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.4.0.2290". This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release. Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions. If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us. Simonkidd and debraspicher 1 1 Quote
