That's what font manager apps are for.
For example, on MacOS Ventura I use Typeface. Before that I was a longtime user of FontExplorerX.

It is available, in a way.

For example, you could:

  1. Install the font.
  2. Create a document that uses the font.
  3. Save the document as a Package, and Close the document.
  4. Uninstall the font.
  5. Open the Package. The font will be reinstalled, temporarily, for use by Affinity while the Package is open.

However, as Package files (.afpackage) are not compatible with the Books feature of Publisher, this is not a fully usable solution. But if I remember correctly, and if the applications still work this way (and it's not a bug), you could Open a Package that uses the file, then use the file in other documents you have open in the application. If that still works, it means that Opening a Package file when you want to use the font, and Closing it when you don't need the font, offers you a kind of manual, temporary, font-management approach within Affinity now.

It would be so much easier as well as save so much time if this feature was available in Affinity.

I'm not convinced that it would be any easier or quicker to select a font and temporally install it in Affinity itself, than it is to use a font manager (such as the free version of Fontbase).

good font manager will automatically activate inactive fonts requested by Affinity – or any other app for that matter. That saves so much time.
Here's how Typeface does it: https://typefaceapp.com/help/articles/activation

... Especially if you have to do it three times for each of the ASuite applications, or even other applications that you use. In Font Manager you set it only once and in one place.

For serious work on many projects/documents I agree to use some font manager.

But an option similar to InDesign's package – case of having specifically named directory located in same directory as afinity document from which the Publisher would "use" the fonts – would be useful (quicker and easier than whole process with a package in Publisher).

Or to have some directory for all Affinity apps where user could store often used fonts for work in all Affinity apps without having to activate them in system.
