AD v.2/Windows/Up-to-date

I was playing around with AD this morning and my Node Tool turned from the typical white arrow to a thing that looks like a +.
I've rebooted, but when it comes back up, it's still a + and no longer a white arrow.
Oddly, the pointer transform tool is now a white arrow - How do I switch them back, please?

A screenshot showing what you're seeing would help. Please include the complete application window.

Thank you for your reply -

Oddly it just changed back. I don't know what I did. If it happens again, I'll post some screenshots, but now it's working correctly again.

Caps lock?

I know that changes the pointer to a crosshair ... but I can't remember what the purpose of that option is. I searched for the answer in the forums in help, & on the web but could not find anything about why it existed.

Can someone fill me in on its purpose, please?

I tried that but nothing I found explained the purpose of this option or when it was added -- in particular for the Node Tool. it seems to do nothing other than change the pointer icon so I'm still hoping for a more definitive answer for why it exists.

It has generally been often demanded by people for several tools, to get some better viewable and usable mouse pointing cursors for performing more exact x,y-position on areas/selections etc. - I believe that's the overall whole purpose for that available changing cursor option at all here, as far as it doesn't do/perform any tool mode related changings.

Caps lock?

You're Brilliant! That was it. I was using Caps Locks for the text.
I just tested it. When I turned on the Caps locks again it happened.
That would have never occurred to me - Thank you!!

I thought that was for brushes but it seems a bit odd that it applies to the Node Tool as well.

1. I spent an Hour going through Settings and Shortcuts, thinking I had hit something, but couldn't find anything.
2. I didn't know what it was called - so clearly my search brought no joy.
3. I did search Affinity Designer why did my Node Tool turn into a plus sign. I watched 10 videos - not one mentioned capslocks.

Sadly not all is always very well documented for affinity apps, as for example different used cursor signs and their associated tool meanings etc. - So there is still much room for all sort of documentation improvements, also for this special case you ran now into.

It now works for several vector drawing/editing tools in addition to the raster painting tools:

Pen Tool, Pencil Tool, Vector Brush Tool, Node Tool, Knife Tool, Corner Tool, probably others I've missed.

I know that. I just don't know why it would be useful for the Node Tool & perhaps a few others.

I didn't know this either - long time customer. Interesting. I never use CAPS LOCK in Affinity so discovering it was only possible by accident. Never saw it mentioned anywhere.

macOS introduced this some time ago an on screen symbol when CAPS LOCK is activated. My first impression of it was that it was a silly idea but since then it help me many times:

I simply no longer believe that there are any professional graphic designers here. Everything follows suit. Just everything.

I would tell you, but you'll already know it.

I most certainly do not know why it would be useful for the Node tool, since the normal triangular pointer already affords precise positioning of the pointer at its tip.

For brushes it makes sense, otherwise it does not, at least to me.

In your opinion. Other people may see this instead completely differently here!

I had hoped that it was obvious that it was just my opinion. That's why I said "I most certainly do not know why."

You should after so long time in this forum know better, that it doesn't matter much what you as a single person opinion wise think related to that theme, if the majority of all other people obviously do think different. - So there is no need to discuss this specific theme any further here.

First, it is not obvious what a majority of people think ... unless unlike your earlier comment, you actually can read minds or have some secret knowledge you do not want to share with me.

Aside from that, as I have tried to make as clear as I can but obviously failed to do, I am just asking why anyone would want that for anything other than the brush tools, & hoping to get a few answers from people who do want it & could explain it to me.

So far, nobody has done that.

Photoshop has it for the Brush Tool. It's also possible to enable it permanently in Affinity under Preferences. Many drawing programs have the option as well.

Somewhat related but in Designer when the appropriate tool is active, when toggling Caps lock, it does show a toast message briefly when pressed. Can't upload a gif for some reason, so here is a screenshot:

FWIW, I do not see that message on my Mac, briefly or otherwise, with any tool selected; nor is there anything about it I can find in the help topics or via a web search.

Yes, it's Windows. I tested for it in another application, but it didn't pop up initially. I don't really use Capslock all that much. (I prefer styles)
