Hi,

I've just experienced a problem with the corrupted document and I am not able to reopen it again, which is a huge work-time loss for me..
Document quitted suddenly and I can't reopen it, having this notice:

Failed to open document
/Volumes/Transcend/NP_ZALOHA/NOVY_POPULAR_5_23.afpub
The file appears to be corrupted

1) working on Monterey 12.6.2

2) Affinity Publisher 1.10.5

3) The file was saved on my Macbook local disk.

Can you please help me?

Ludek

Hi @Naufrago and welcome to the forums,

Unfortunately, depending on the level of file corruption, it is quite likely that the file may not be recoverable but if you're happy to upload it along with any Linked files used in the document by zipping it up into a single .zip file we can certainly take a look for you...

Thank you for the quick answer...
It's a bulk magazine project, so I linked at least the files up to the limit, so you can try and see the amount of corruption.
Would be nice to know if there's a chance (at least for opening the file and maybe copying some content into the healthy file, which I did last time when I experienced this with Affinity publisher) or I shoud quit my sleep and redo the work because of the deadline... :(
My fault I didn't do a backup file, but this happed to me only once with earlier versions and since then all was ok.

Thank yNaufrago_corrupted_file.zipou very much!
Please let me know if you need more form my side.

Hi @Naufrago,

Many thanks for the files...

Unfortunately trying all the usual methods hasn't worked, I see the following error messages in v1 and v2 respectively... It may well be that someone at Serif can recover your file as they likely have more sophisticated file recovery software than I do but there are still no guarantees.

Someone from the Serif moderation team should pick up your post on Monday where hopefully they can take a look though I appreciate you're up against a deadline so Monday may be too late, especially knowing that the file still may be unrecoverable...

I'm sorry I can't help you more, sometimes these files are recoverable via the 'Add Pages from File option' in Publisher but on this occasion that wasn't the case...

I appreciate it's obvious now but I would highly recommend keeping regular backups of your work so you always have a file to go back to in the event of something like this happening in the future...

Hi @Hangman,
thank you for your effort, anyway. Yeah, my fault I did not backup, but...

Time is against me, so better to start again and not rely on the possible recovery.

I really appreciate you did your best!!!

Thanks!

Hi @Naufrago,

That's no problem, I'm only sorry the news wasn't more positive...

Are you sure about that? From the 'failed' notice in your first post it looks like it was stored in Volumes/Transcend, which sounds like it might be an external disk.

I've copied the text from the notice that appeared when I was trying to open it after copying it to a different location...

It might have helped if you mentioned that to begin with, but if an original is corrupted there is very little chance that a copy of it would not be, whether copied to a different drive or not.

Thanks for your document provided @Naufrago & we're certainly sorry to hear this is occurring for you.

I've tried recovering this file using the tools available to me and unfortunately I have been unable to thus far. Inspecting your file in a HEX editor shows that sections of the documents data itself is missing, like causing this error message -

I'll be logging this file with our development team for further investigation and to help reduce the chances of this occurring in the future, but unfortunately we're unable to offer any guarantees the file itself can be repaired.
